The majority of the windows looked fine. Two small basement windows were missed, and while they removed the screens, they did not clean them. The window tracks also were not cleaned. I did not call them back but will look for another service next year.

Yes, you can pay someone to strip wallpaper. Before you hang new wallpaper, you should hire a local wallpaper removal service to prep the surface properly. Wallpaper removal pros cost $0.55 to $1.50 per square foot or $500 to $700 per room. Prices vary by room size and removal technique, as some options are more labor-intensive.

The simple nature of peel and stick wallpaper means it should come off much more easily than traditional wallpaper that is glued to your walls. You’ll still want to work slowly and carefully to avoid tearing it, but most peel and stick wallpaper should come off without a chemical agent to loosen it.

We don’t recommend wallpapering over older paper. That’s because creating layers of glue can invite bubbling or excess moisture on the wall’s surface. You should also prime your wall before applying wallpaper and smooth the wall as much as you can, and another layer of wallpaper complicates this process.

Rubbing alcohol may help dissolve stubborn wallpaper adhesive that remains after removal, but be sure to apply it carefully to prevent damaging your walls. Apply a small amount using a cotton swab or pad, then gently scrape or wipe the adhesive away.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.
