"We got a really good high efficiency Goodman gas burning furnace and central air conditioning. We also got a humidifier and electrostatic filter. I was extremely happy with their service. They are very professional and know what they are doing. They have been responsive."

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"Overall, Jim and his crew worked efficiently and long hours (7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)  When they couldn't figure out how to manage taking the air handler through the crawl space opening, they called Randy.  It had to be disassembled, which is one of the positive features of the Amana, and then reassembled on spot.

I am very glad that we had the duct cleaning company also do pest control, because the ACI crew discovered hobo and brown recluse spider carcasses in the crawl space, as well as dried cat urine on the visqueen and in the insulation.

We had not realized how much damage the cat urine had done to the ductwork until the ducts were removed.  There were rusted holes and corrosion streaks throughout the ducts!

The first day was spent mostly by removing the old equipment, which apparently had been installed used and incorrectly, ductwork, visqueen, and insulation. They were very concerned about keeping the house clean and tidy. The second day was spent with the installation of the new components and getting it in working order.  The crew had to come back an extra day, because they lacked the necessary supplies, such as enough visqueen and insulation, to complete the final steps. The entire crew was friendly and answered both my questions and spoke with my husband, via telephone. Very nice, indeed.

Just today, October 20, Jim came back to show me how to work the thermostat because "replace air filter" scrolled across the screen.

Randy, when showing us the possible equipment to be installed, explained the Avista rebate and tax credit that would be available with the purchase of the new equipment.  He is handling the Avista rebate, which is what I call substantial.  We haven't received it yet.  He also worked with us to make replacing the system more affordable.

As a side note, we did not know at the time of purchase that the seller had purchased the house from a person, who had bought it from a lady who had 13 cats. He flipped the house.  We found this information out from neighbors.  We didn't notice any cat urine smell because each time we visited the house all the windows and doors were wide open; we attributed it to the fact that that was the way the seller liked living.  We have since found urine smell on the walls in many of the closets and near the vents.  We have used Nature's Miracle, which seems be helping. There should be house-fax just like carfax.  I thought that was what inspectors and real estate agents were supposed to do.

All in all, we are glad that the work is done and that ACI did it and that we found them, and other companies, through Angie's List.  Thank you.

Insulation questions, answered by experts

R-value stands for resistance value and is a number assigned to insulation that states how good the insulation is at heat transference (insulation). The R-value of injection foam is around 4 which homeowners will be happy to know is actually quite good. Another benefit of injection foam versus fiberglass foam is that the colder it gets, the more injection foam retains its resistance properties, whereas fiberglass tends to lose its efficiency in colder temperatures.

Depending on the size, insulation condition, and removal method, it can take anywhere from four hours up to twenty hours. Therefore, be prepared to split the projects into phases, or leave it to a professional. Insulation is an intermediate project with various risk factors and can be challenging to someone unfamiliar with the process.

Rockwool insulation can last up to 100 years, but just how long this insulation lasts in your home depends on how well it's maintained. Poorly installed insulation may last only 30 years, so be sure to regularly inspect your home's insulation for water damage, settling, and pests to give your insulation the best chance of having a long lifespan.

Cellulose insulation is usually made from recycled paper products, such as old newspapers, but cellulose might also contain recycled denim. While most homeowners traditionally buy cellulose insulation to use for installation, it is possible to make your own at home with old newspapers, cardboard, a paper shredder, and boric acid (important for fireproofing your cellulose insulation materials).

Energy-efficient homes generally have higher appraisals and appeal to buyers.
