"They were great. Did a terrific job and were willing to do whatever I needed done. Even got the stuck lid off my fav cup. My deck looks so good with all the leaves and pine needles gone as does my yard. What a relief to get them gone and all cleaned up. Great humans also."

"Troy prioritized my floors and worked hard to complete the job. The epoxy finish on 1600 sq ft are beautiful and getting rave comments from everyone who sees them. Troy added an accent color at our request which brought out the rust color in the blue pine used elsewhere in the home. We are so thankful we hired someone who wanted to do the job we described. Troy also did 2400 sq ft with a stone pigment in the garage. It is beautiful and the between the two transition was so well done. The garage floor is really solid and durable. We moved a 2,000 pound safe that slide off the dolly at one point and it didnâ t dent . Again, the pigment is exact to the color sample. Troy takes pride in his work and completed the job on time and exactly on his estimate. We have worked with many contractors over the years. The success of projects often depends on who you select to do the job. Troy was 5 star in every way. And a really nice, hard working ethical contractor."

"J&J Solutions came to the rescue when the movers that were originally hired cancelled last minute. After calling every company I could find and not having any luck getting any help until after the holiday weekend, I came across their add and decided to give it a shot. Not only was Jeremiah extremely polite and professional but he made time to move my family into our new house and offered the services of cleaning the old one and all at a decent price. Compared to what I was already quoted by other companies J&J's was great and they also took the worries away with the old housecleaning. Jasper and his crew showed up a few minutes early then scheduled, which I appreciated! Jasper and his crew got us all moved out with care, organization, and in a timely manner. The housecleaning was done better then I would have done myself. After seeing the amazing cleaning job they did on the old house, I have hired them to come in and clean our house every two weeks. The whole team of J&J Solutions went over and beyond for my family and I! I will refer them to anyone and everyone for any job that needs done. Thank you J&J's for all your help!!

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

Cold temperatures can make your deck boards contract. If they don’t contract evenly, they can put pressure on the deck screws and cause them to pop out, making a noticeable sound. Winterizing your deck can help prevent this from happening.

Materials for a second-story deck must be weather- and rot-resistant, though the specific choices will largely be determined by your budget and style preference. Pressure-treated wood is on the lower end of the price scale, but it can be customized and stained the way you like it. Composite, on the other hand, is pricier for installation and has fewer options for customization, but you’ll save money and time in the long run because it requires little maintenance.

No, you don’t need a permit to repair and replace a few boards on an existing deck. However, if you’re making structural changes to the deck or tearing down the old one and building a new one, you will likely need a permit. Check with your local municipality for the regulations and rules in your area, or ask a local contractor who builds decks for advice.
