"When I called, the flyer make it look like they were local, but it was an answering service in another state. I then got a call from thier local branch and they were very professional and able to set a time for 2 people to come to our house for 2 hours. They originally told me they would be there at 8:30, but then called the day before to tell me they would be there at 9:00. We had a showing scheduled at 11:00, so I thought it would be cutting it close, but would be ok. The two ladies didn't arrive until 9:10 and because I had to show them what I wanted done, they didn't get started until 9:20. They were both very nice and professional. Needless to say, not everything got done. The next day, I went back to some of the tasks they had supposedly accomplished (detail clean cupboards in kitchen, clean front doors/entrance and get scuffs off), and found that they had either missed all of the lower cupboards or had done a bad job. I cleaned again myself. Also, I bought a box of magic erasers and spent 30 minutes cleaning the scuffs off of the front door. When I had finished, the door looked brand new. Having them over was supposed to save me some time in a stressful situation. I feel like I wasted my money having them come over to help me with the house."

Floor Polishers questions, answered by experts

Before starting on a full refinishing project, determine if your floors need to be completely sanded down to the bare wood or if the damage is shallow and mostly cosmetic. Deep scratches and gouges will require you to rough sand using a drum sander or belt sander, but small surface scratches or floors that have only lost their luster don’t need a complete overhaul. Instead, you can skip the rough sanding step and sand-screen the old finish with a buffer, removing only the top layer of polyurethane.

You should strip and wax hardwood floors every six months to two years. The actual length of time between stripping and waxing depends on the wear and tear that the floors see. Stripping and waxing floors can help repair hardwood floor damage and give the room a fresh look.

There are many benefits to hiring a professional floor cleaner. First, these flooring pros know the right chemicals for your flooring type, which is essential for its longevity. Likewise, they have the proper deep-cleaning equipment, which is often more complex than a mop or broom. Not only that, but deep cleaning your floors can be a time-consuming process, and by hiring a professional, you can spend that time on other home improvement projects.

The best solution for mopping floors depends on the type of floor you have, but a good all-around or multi-purpose DIY floor cleaner is 2 cups of warm water, 5 to 10 drops of liquid dish soap, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. This is safe to use on tile, laminate, wood, polished concrete, vinyl, and more, as it’s relatively neutral and lacks caustic and abrasive chemicals that could be harmful to children and pets. You can also use a multi-purpose commercial cleaner, but make sure to follow the directions for safety.

If you’re cleaning or repairing laminate floors, avoid anything abrasive like heavy-grit sandpaper or steel wool. Because the image layer is protected by a topcoat, the image layer is more vulnerable to scratches and damage if the topcoat is damaged. And if the image layer is scratched, it can reveal the wood fiber core.
