Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.

Simply put, natural stone flooring is a high-end style that outlasts its wood and carpet counterparts. After finding a style you love, a stone flooring company near you can help source and install them for a reliably clean look.
You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.
If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.
Slate is pricier than many other flooring materials, but it’s not the most expensive option on the market. Much like granite, as long as you properly seal your marble slab or tiles, it makes an excellent stain-resistant option for backsplashes. However, since marble is one of the priciest materials available, you may want to consider a less-expensive backsplash option, such as tile.
