"Never came to door to acknowledge he was here. Saw on security cameras that he was here less than 10 minutes. Charged us $110 just for labor which equals $11 PER MINUTE. Then we got another $10 GAS fee for the 8 blocks they drove here. Plus the part which is fine. But the labor is extremely high and the gas? Really. This is the reason consumers are not supporting small local business owners….we won’t with Sioux City Sprinklers."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Your lawn needs to recover after aeration, so make sure the work is done at some point during its peak growing season. This will depend on your region and the type of grass you have, but generally, aerate once or twice per year, either during the late spring, early summer, or early fall.

If your lawn hasn't been aerated in over a year, or the soil is incredibly compacted, do two passes with the aerator. The first pass should follow your mowing pattern and the second one should form a perpendicular angle relative to the first. Stick to 20 to 40 holes per square foot as a rule of thumb.

Because it’s native to the central United States and Canada and is drought-tolerant, it typically is not difficult to grow. It requires very little maintenance and minimal watering beyond rainfall. Its hardy nature and unique look make it a favorite choice among people living in the western United States and other dry regions of the country.

There are a few ways to fix your lawn on a budget, including:

  • Identify the lawn care problem and learn how to seed, fertilize, and aerate your lawn.

  • Reseed old, damaged lawn with new grass that fares better in your environment.

  • Remove grass from your yard so you no longer need to worry about lawn care costs.

Yes, it’s worth aerating a lawn. Even the most diligent mowing, watering, and fertilizing schedule is not enough if the roots are not able to benefit from the care and nutrients you’re giving them. Even a lawn that’s already healthy can benefit from aeration because the more air that circulates around the roots, the stronger and healthier it will grow.
