"June of 2013 I bought a 1926 home that had been inhabited by an elderly person who wasn't able to do much maintenance or cleaning allowing the silverfish and spider populations to thrive.  During the renovation prior to moving in I was killing about 5-7 spiders a night including one I thought was a brown recluse.  I was a wreck after that and too scared to move in. I called Diam in a panic and they sent out Jason the next day.
Jason did an excellent job of inspecting my property inside and out and explaining the habits of brown recluses and their distinct web style.  He did notice a lot of cellar spiders but assured me that he didn't see any brown recluse webs. He put down traps in likely spider traffic areas and said he would come back in 30 days to inspect the traps to see which types of spiders were present just to make sure.  He sprayed quite liberally around my exterior foundation and all around the house and walk in attic area and told me to call them before the 30 days if I was still having problems and advised that I download their free Diam Pest app on my smart phone so I could send them pictures of any weird spiders or other pests.  I felt so much better after his visit that I was able to move in.
He came back 30 days later to do a follow up spray and trap check. Traps contained a couple varieties of cellar spiders but no brown recluses. I also noticed a signifcant reduction of spiders. After the 1 month followup spray there were none. This exceeded my expectations as all the research I did online in old house forums said that spiders were difficult to control.  I was so pleased I decided to go on a quarterly contract.  Since then I have had two maintenance treatments at $89 a pop and I haven't seen a spider in the house in months. Worth every penny!
I really appreciate that they send reminders and follow up calls to confirm the quarterly maintenance appointment. I also like that they send the same representative to my house each time.

"They have been very nice. It didn't cost me anything. I expected that they have a charge for coming and checking everything. He came over and looked at everything and he gave me a price. I felt that the whole place was full of termites. I have a lot of trees in my yard and he found nothing. He did the garage and it was separate. He looked at the crawlspace in my basement. He looked everywhere and did not find anything. That was great. He said if I want to do treatment, he gave me a price for that for the next 5 years. I had none but if I want to have him come and treat it. I was by myself. He answered all my questions fully and didn't try to pressure me into anything. They are very good in easing my worries and I had the option to pick to have it treated. It was all at one shop. He didn't have to come back, didn't have to ponder, didn't have to do anything. He eased my fear of termites in this house versus 6:36-38. It was very good. I have a part of a crawlspace basement. Part of it is full and part of it is crawl. He crawled up and even looked at the back of the house. His responsiveness was very good. He said he would be here on time and he was here on time. He was very knowledgeable. I kept his card. I'm here all my life so I know there are termites but I've never had any so I opted not to but I may still go back and do it. I would call him."

"Phenomenal! Hands down the best pest control company in Des Moines! We live in a house built in the 1920's and have original windows, so my expectations on pest control are fairly low, due to the age of the house and the fact that the windows aren't sealed well. With our previous pest company, I came to expect a few bugs slipping through the cracks because of the house. What Gene and Bobcat did was go above and beyond what any other pest company has done. Not only do they barricade the inside of the house, but he also cleaned off the side of the house where they might have been feeding opportunities for bugs. He also has done such a great job that I have not seen a bug the entire time we have been with them. He spends the time to actually look for opportunities for bugs to enter your home and immediately closes those windows. When I noticed that we had odorous ants, Gene came right out, applied a solution and told us what to expect. In a matter of a day, the entire problem was solved and we haven't seen another ant! While the price may be a bit higher than other cheap, corporate pest companies, you get the owner of the company coming to your house, who treats your house like he would his own and who has an obvious, vested interest in doing a great job for you. I have never, ever heard of anyone having a complaint with Gene or his services. On top of all that, you won't stop laughing when he is there...just a fun guy to have around and that makes working with them so much better! There is nothing worse than a cranky, unresponsive employee who doesn't care about the work he does and you will never get that with Bobcat. Gene and his crew make it so easy to love doing business with them. Never in my wildest dreams would I actually look forward to having the pest control company out to the house and that says a lot about Gene and the company he runs."

"Both the inspector and the treatment guy were very friendly and professional. The inspector assessed our problem as an infection with fleas from a pet bird and he appeared to be right, however, the treatment guy said that he should have also checked for bedbugs. The treatment for fleas seem to have corrected our problem."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Hanging wind chimes or motion-activated speakers near your home may be an effective way to deter woodpeckers, as sudden movement and sound often scare birds away. You could also try using reflective decorative items such as pinwheels or mirrors or placing decoys of large predatory birds in your yard. If these measures don’t deter the woodpeckers, you may need the help of a bird removal pro.

The cost for bird and bat control services typically ranges from $300 to $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size and severity of the infestation, the specific removal method used, and the complexity of accessing the affected areas.

Finding a dead bat in your home can be frightening, even during spooky season. The United States Department of Interior states that if you find a dead bat, take these steps:

  • Contact your state wildlife agency to report the finding

  • Photograph the bat safely to help the wildlife agency determine the species

  • Use disposable gloves to place the bat into a plastic bag, making sure to spray with disinfectant and close the bag securely

  • Thoroughly clean your hands and any clothing that came into contact with the bat

If you see one dead bat, you might have a large bat infestation that needs to be treated immediately. Call a local pest control company to properly inspect your home for other bats.

When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. If the bird is pecking to mark its territory or attract a mate, it may leave dents rather than holes, and the noise will stop when the mating season starts in spring.

Woodpeckers peck at the break of dawn and take a break whenever the sun is not shining. On sunny days, expect pecking from dawn to dusk. On cloudy days, expect sporadic pecking when the sun peeks through. These birds are most active in the spring; you’ll hear them drumming as soon as the weather turns warm.
