"REL Construction just completed a project replacing all 5 exterior doors on our home. I was concerned about the odd sizing and intricate woodwork that comes with a hundred year old home, but the crew handled everything with expertise and absolute care. I cannot begin to explain how wonderful it has been to work with this company. Lara and Eric maintain a truly excellent crew of incredibly skilled craftspeople (especially Gene - a true master of his craft!) I simply cannot say enough about the quality, dependable, HONEST work they completed for our family. After years of being price-gouged by messy, incompetent "contractors", I was certain that we'd never be happy with one. I am thrilled to say REL has shown me that I was wrong! I hope they never get tired of me, because I plan to give them SEVERAL more projects!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Installing a dog door is generally a straightforward process that handy DIYers may feel comfortable attempting on their own. Because the process usually involves cutting a hole in your existing door or wall, some homeowners may prefer to hire a handyperson who has experience with this type of installation to ensure the job is done right.

Yes, it is essential that you perform bi-annual maintenance on your bifold doors. This means checking the hardware, cleaning the door and the tracks, and lubricating the locks. Most of this work can be done on your own, but if you wish for a more thorough inspection, you should call in a professional door repair company.

The L marking on a door closer stands for latch speed and the S marking stands for swing speed. These two letters inform what part of the door closer you may be adjusting. The latch speed being the short final swing the door makes before closing and the swing speed being the long swing of the door when closing.

You should generally cut between 1/8-inch and 1 inch when planing a door. If you cut off more than that, you risk damaging the door. Planing too much from the bottom of your door can cause noticeable gaps, so it’s always better to start with as thin of a section as possible and work in thin layers until your door no longer sticks.

Leaving vents open but closing doors in unused rooms will probably not save money on your energy bill. Closed doors prevent the natural flow of air throughout the home, which could reduce the efficiency of the overall HVAC system. They could also restrict airflow into and through the return vents, making the HVAC system less efficient.
