"Absolute horrible company and completely unprofessional. They put a key lock into my apartment door to prevent me from getting in. We got the all clear Saturday night at 6 pm that we could go home, but couldn't get into apartment because of their lock key. Called multiple times, no answer so I had to go in through the upstairs apartment and take the lock apartment to get in. After two weeks of them trying to "fix" it they are now saying I broke it when I removed the two screws to pull the lock out. They refuse to take responsibility and apparently I should have stayed in a hotel for two weeks until they got the part to fix my door. Save yourself a lot of hassle and frustration and find a company that cares about their customers."

You can try using home remedies to help keep bats away. Some popular suggestions include substances with strong odors like peppermint oil, eucalyptus, cinnamon, cloves, and/or mint for a natural remedy. Strong scents like peppermint, rosemary, lavender, citronella, and others can repel woodpeckers—as pungent smells can overpower their senses. For that reason, you might consider making a homemade spray with one or a combination of these scents to spritz around areas of your home where woodpeckers frequent.

No single deterrent will work 100 percent of the time, so we suggest combining deterrents to ensure your seed has the best possible chance to grow. Using bird netting over your seed, with physical deterrents like mylar tape coupled with hanging bird feeders at the edges of your growing area—and removing any bird’s nests, if possible—will give your seeds the best possible chance for success.

  • Sounds: Smaller animals like rats and mice make scurrying and tapping/gnawing sounds. Larger animals like raccoons and opossums make louder clambering noises. Also, note when animals are noisy: Squirrels are active during the day, while rats are busiest at night.

  • Droppings: Rats and mice leave small, rice-shaped droppings (the rat’s version is significantly larger). Bigger droppings belong to larger critters like raccoons. As long as you’re not squeamish, an image search can help you identify what you’re seeing in your attic.
