"Ken, had excellent communication throughout the process and a very fair price for the size of my home. He showed up on time, got started and finished in a timely manner. The finished product was like night and day literally. It hadn’t been done in 10 years. I thought I had to paint but turns out pressure washing did the job. They also cleaned my porches and walkway. He is now in my phone permanently. Wouldn’t use anyone else. Thanks"

"HandyMack did a fantastic job installing cabinets handles, back splash, and showerhead. They took good care to protect my flooring and countertops. They were on time, and cleaned up when finished. Communication was great. They understood the assignment and did a great job on this project. Looking forward to contracting with them again."

"I actually had to get educated on doing reviews for people and with this particular company. I had some concerns that I should’ve addressed it with the owner, who cleaned my carpet. Let me tell you this man came back redid the couch spectacularly turned around and because I did not have the particular sofa at my home, made a trip outside of his area, went and cleaned the sofa again This man is amazing and just upfront. I just want to say I do apologize. Yes I have and will use this person again."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best way to clean your decking is to clear debris from the gaps between the boards, sweep the surface, rinse it, apply cleaner, rinse again, and let it dry fully. A homemade deck cleaner made of two gallons of warm water and 1/2 cup vinegar is a simple cleaning solution for both wood and composite decking. You can sprinkle baking soda on any spots with mold or mildew, then scrub the area and rinse clean.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

Because adding a deck will yield a higher property value, you may have higher insurance costs. It’s important to follow the codes and regulations set by your local and state governments, so your insurance rates can be properly calculated. You may need an insurance revaluation after your deck is completed. The best course of action is to speak with an insurance professional to understand how adding a deck will impact your home’s insurance costs before you begin.

Yes, it’s definitely possible to build a pergola on an existing deck. All you need to do is attach the pergola support beams to the deck’s joists and build up from there. Beware that mistakes can damage your deck, so if you’re at all unsure of the process, play it safe and hire a pro for your custom build.

You can add a roof to most decks, but you need to have it inspected first. If your deck didn’t come with a roof initially, it may not be able to handle the weight without some structural changes. You can add additional supports to your existing deck to safely add a roof, and tying your deck’s roof to an exterior wall can help add some structural stability, but remember these aren’t DIY projects and need to be left to a pro.
