"Robert and his crew are professional, highly capable and go above and beyond to make sure the job is done right. In a city where seemingly anyone can buy a pressure washer and call themselves a pro - Squeaky Clean actually knows what they are doing. I hired them to pressure wash my driveway, clean the exterior of my home and stain my deck. Robert used 30ft extension brushes to wash the windows and the pressure washer on the brick and siding. By the time he was done (he spent the majority of the day on it), the house looked fantastic. He used an algeacide to prep my deck as well. Even though I don t think he generally does deck staining - we agreed on an arrangement where I would supply the stain and he would supply the labor. They returned several days after the pressure washing to stain the deck and did a very thorough job. Our deck looks fantastic now. I would definitely recommend Robert and his company for any exterior cleaning tasks. He has the right equipment, know how and communication skills to make the job go smoothly. I will certainly use them again."

"I was impressed with Edgar and his team of women cleaners. The house never looked so clean when they finished. I have now booked them for bimonthly cleaning and referred them to friends."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Spindles on a deck may also be called balusters or pickets. While not as important to the structural support of the deck as the rail posts, they play a critical role in ensuring the deck is safe to use by closing in large gaps in the railing. For this reason, balusters must be no more than 4 inches away from one another.

It is possible to build your own deck, but it’s typically better to leave the work to a decking professional. Decks can be exceptionally complicated, especially if you want a wrap-around or second-story deck, and you don’t want to risk making an expensive or dangerous mistake. It’s usually better to hire a decking pro who can pull permits and build a structurally sound deck that will last for decades and provide the maximum return on investment.

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation, substructure, or subframe to ensure stability. This base is typically composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame's joists can be built from various materials like composite, plastic, timber, or metal, as long as the base can support the deck's weight without shifting. A professional deck builder might recommend installing the frame on a solid concrete base for added durability. The final design and materials for the substructure will depend on your budget, the type of deck, and environmental conditions.

Two coats of stain are ideal for the best protection and aesthetic appeal. However, if your decking is made of particularly dense hardwood, you may only need one coat. If you want an intense color, two coats are ideal.
