"Alvis Home Remodeling was fantastic. Because the cost was lower than some others I didn’t know what to expect. I was very pleased with the finished product. Another important note is not only was I completely satisfied with the work, I was also impressed with the clean up after. When the repairman left there was nothing else I needed to do. I would not hesitate to use his services in the future!"

"Elmer and his crew did a fantastic job! When I called for information, he was on site in less than an hour. Gave a fair price and was very polite and professional. His crew is very hard working and finished on time. Elmer told us that the job wasn't done until the customer is satisfied. Would definitely recommend Elmer's Landscaping and will use them in the future. Great, dependable, & professional"

Customers say: Quick response

"The door I bought before I called him did not fit just right with the existing hardware so he used some of his own to include boarding the top where there was space on my back-porch. He did not even raise the price originally quoted at all and was happy to complete everything. He was efficient and clean and did quality work for a great price! I would definitely recommend Door Expert to anyone."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

A metal fence can last for over 30 years if maintained correctly, though the exact lifespan varies by material. For instance, chain-link and aluminum fences can function well for 25 to 30 years, while corrugated metal fences may last up to 60 years with regular maintenance. The lifespan can be shortened by harsh weather, abuse, or lower-quality materials. Galvanized metal tends to last longer due to its protective barrier, whereas sheet and corrugated metal may rust faster than solid pieces.

There are a variety of second-story deck privacy ideas depending on your budget and aesthetic. For starters, you might consider fencing or tall privacy railing that masks a good portion of the open deck. A pergola or an awning can provide additional cover and shade. Outdoor curtains are an easy way to add or remove privacy at your convenience, plus they’re a wallet-friendly way to decorate your deck.

Glass has one of the longest lifespans of any fencing materials, lasting anywhere from 10 to 30 years on average. Just how long your glass fence lasts depends on several factors, including how well you maintain your fence, the climate, and the type of glass you use.

If you live somewhere with severe weather like hail, tornadoes, or hurricanes, expect your glass to have a shorter lifespan. Pool glass is one of the thickest tempered glass materials and may last longer than other options—especially compared to laminated glass.

The ideal spacing for four-by-four residential fence posts is usually about 6 to 8 feet between posts. However, if the fence is particularly high or you live in a very windy region, you might want to space them closer together for better stability. A fence pro can help you decide on your post spacing.

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.
