"We had a wonderful experience with Artisan Custom Closets from start to finish. Kimberly was knowledgeable and extremely helpful in getting us everything we wanted in our closet. The installers were great guys and did a fabulous job. I only have good things to say and I would recommend doing business with this company."

"My wife had been itching for another house project for us (me) to do. She somehow landed on the idea of closet storage/organizing. Long story short, she was getting frustrated at me because I wasn’t able to devote any time to her new idea. I had recently heard about Classy Closet and convinced my wife to let them do the work. She didn’t need much convincing at all since it’s a local & small company, super competitive pricing, quick turnaround, and high quality work. Not gonna lie, I was a little nervous that my wife wouldn’t love the finished product cause she’s fairly picky with stuff like this… but man was I wrong! Classy Closet absolutely knocked it out of the park and we’re both thrilled with the results! Would highly recommend to anyone! Especially husbands who don’t have enough time to do all of their wife’s house projects."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

Closets questions, answered by experts

The vertical space between closet shelves depends on what you're storing. For clothing like shirts and sweaters, 10 to 12 inches is enough. Towels and linens need 12 to 15 inches, while tall storage bins may require 18 inches or more. Overcrowding your shelves can reduce accessibility and increase clutter, so be sure to leave breathing room for your items.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

When you are securing your DIY home office built-ins to the wall, you should start by locating the wall studs. You'll then want to use long screws to attach the cabinets, shelves, and bookcases directly to the wall studs. Your built-ins will be far too heavy to attach to the drywall alone by using anchors.

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.
