"The quote was free. I removed popcorn ceilings from pretty much the whole house. Once I removed the popcorn, I ascended the ceiling down but I needed somebody to give it a coat of mud. Eric Hooks was very kind, very professional and very pleasant. But he told me when I met him that it would be around $1400-$1500 and that didn’t include the material. He called me a week later and he told me that he had misquoted. He quoted me $3500 to do a coat of mud on the ceiling and bind the ceiling. He said it probably needed a couple of coats of mud. Needless to say, the job went to the guy who did it for $750. When they spray popcorn ceiling, basically mud joins it very well. They have to skim the ceilings and they have to use some joint compound to smooth the ceiling out; otherwise the lines will be seen where the joints are. He said $3500; I think they look at me and think that I am a girl and I don’t know how much things cost. I think for $3500; I can get my whole ceiling redone with new drywall for that price. I thought it was very high for 1400 square feet; it’s not a mansion. He had wonderful reviews on Angie’s List and if he had been $1400, I would have considered him. Whoever I hired did it for $750; they did a pretty decent job, and I am happy with it and it was cheap for the job. Probably $1400 I think is what most would quote. I had a quote from somebody else who said they would do it for $1000-$1500. Eric Hooks was very nice and I am sure he would do a great job, but he was really expensive as far as what he quoted me. If he had given me a reasonable price; I am sure it would have been great and he would have done a wonderful job. He was on time and called me back a few days later. Once you find somebody that does a job that’s okay and it’s cheap, you stick with those. Given what he quoted me, I probably would not use him again in the future."

In total, Smith Restorations handled repairs to our tree house, built a new deck, which included some stone patio work, installed floors for our entire first floor, updated our 1/2 bath and remodeled my kitchen. We went from thinking we had to move electrical panels and walls to a much simpler design which he believed would achieve the same end. It did. His ideas saved us tons of money. 2) He was the only person who came out and gave a care about our tree house. It was dangerous, needed to be dealt with and two other contractors came and stuck up their noses. 3) We were given options, some of which included sketches. There is more than one way to do things and he knows more than one way. Great good, better, best scenarios. 4) Smith allowed us to use our resources when we had them (I had a good electrician friend) and he did not look to mark-up workers that he brought in to drive up the price. 5) Smith cleans up and hauls away mess. Every day. Enough said. 6) Cost effective. Straightforward in materials and labor costs. 7) Smith Restorations went above and beyond for us and we just kept coming up with projects. We have many more to save up and budget for. We had a great experience. We would highly recommend Smith Restorations and repair for small or large jobs."
