"Very thorough. Did good job? Originally hired this company to clean gutters ( which they did), and found out they also did pressure washing of houses. Their employee quoted price of $200 to wash house, which I agreed to. However, when that employee showed up to do the work, he informed me that the first guy was not authorized to quote a price and they needed an additional $50. I would have agreed to the $250 originally, but I was not happy about their ethics in raising their price at last minute

"We hired Spray and Stain to pressure wash the house, driveway, and deck; and also to stain our deck. The quality of their work was splendid. A very professional presentation and clean-up."

"Doug came out and surveyed job and gave us a fair price and suggestions on stain type, Behr Deck Over, to be used afterwards. After checking around we decided to go with his business on the stripping. His crew arrived on time and spent the day getting the deck pressure washed and stripped for staining. The crew did a good job. I ended up staining myself to save a little money. I would these guys again."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Most building codes list a minimum width of 36 inches and a maximum height of 7¾ inches. However, for the most comfort and spaciousness, you’ll want to aim for a width of at least 48 inches and a height of 7 inches. Again, it’s always a good idea to base your numbers off steps that you already use comfortably.

Decks are generally more expensive to build because they require elevating and railings. The difference between decks and patios is that decks are elevated, while patios are usually on the ground level. Plus, decks are usually made of wood and need more maintenance than most patios. However, decks and patios serve the same purpose, providing outdoor space for you to enjoy.

Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. While this is fine for typical use, it is usually not enough to hold the weight of a hot tub filled with water and people. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.

While eco-friendly decking, also called composite decking, is a win for the environment because it consists of recycled materials, it has trade-offs. These sustainable options often come with steeper price tags, lack natural wood's warm look, and can become uncomfortably hot under full sun. Some composite materials can also become slick when wet, posing a potential hazard.

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.
