"I am extremely upset and disappointed with the service provided by Alec, who initially contacted me through Angi List regarding a tree removal project at my residential property. On Monday, April 7, 2025, Alec visited my home and quoted me $2,000 for the removal of three trees, complete stump grinding, debris removal, and area cleanup. We agreed on a scheduled service date of Wednesday, April 9, 2025. On Tuesday, April 8, Alec called and asked to come early due to a cancellation. I declined because I needed to notify my neighbor. He came on the originally scheduled date, cut down the two trees, but only hauled away half the debris and did absolutely nothing to the stumps. He claimed to have applied a chemical that would decompose the stumps in three days and promised to return with help to complete the work. Alec then changed the total price to $1,800 because only two trees were cut. Despite my reservations, I paid the full $1,800 based on his promise to return on Friday, April 11, to: • Remove the remaining debris that was pushed into the woods, • Properly grind and remove the stumps, • Clean the area, • Repair the lawn with grass seed damaged by his equipment. Since then, Alec has been unreliable and unresponsive. I reached out multiple times via calls and text. He responded briefly, saying he was under a truck and would call back, he never did. On Saturday, April 12, I followed up again. He replied via text that he was dealing with truck issues and would return late Monday with help. That also did not happen. I had my son contact Alec from a different number, and he answered. Once Alec realized it was about the unfinished work, he quickly rushed off the phone and he said he would come on April 17. That date also passed without any response or action from him. Despite repeated calls and texts, I have been completely ignored. As of today, the job remains half-done. The stumps are untouched, debris is still scattered, and the lawn is damaged. It will now cost me an additional $1,200 to complete this time-sensitive project properly. This experience has been extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I am requesting a full refund of the $1,800 due to failure to deliver the agreed-upon services and for the stress, inconvenience, and additional financial burden this has caused."

Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.
When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Lawn irrigation is the process of getting water to your lawn, grass and all, for it to grow. There are five main types of lawn irrigation methods:
Manual irrigation puts you in charge of the flow of water. Using a sprinkler head on your hose is best to evenly distribute the water across your entire lawn. This doesn’t take much time but requires you to be physically outside holding the hose.
Above-ground sprinklers attach to your hose and rotate or oscillate around your lawn. Since these are above-ground, they’ll need to be moved when it’s time to mow, and depending on the size of your property, you might need to move it around your yard for full coverage.
In-ground sprinklers are flush with the ground when not in use but pop up above the ground level when it's time to water the lawn. Piping for these sprinklers is all found underground, and there are different types of sprinkler heads for different uses and lawn sizes.
Drip irrigation involves drip lines that are more efficient than sprinklers for more extensive lawns. This involves a lot of digging since they are installed underground, but it makes it easy for you to mow.
Rainwater collection and irrigation uses nature’s precipitation to water your lawn. This option might not be available in every area since semi-reliable rainfall is needed, though the barrels for this system can range from 15 gallons to 10,000 gallons or more.
The cost of a lawn sprinkler system is $2,550 for the average homeowner. However, this price can range from $350 to $5,000 or more, depending on the type of sprinkler system you install, the size of your yard, and the type of sprinkler heads you choose. For example, rotating or oscillating sprinkler heads are more expensive than stationary ones, making the cost for one sprinkler head $2.50 to $30 each. Likewise, a yard that is 1/4 of an acre in size averages a total average price of $2,460; however, a one-acre yard averages a cost of $9,840.
Landscaping costs around $3,500 but varies widely from $200 to $14,000. Factors that play a part in your final landscaping price tag include:
Location
Yard size
Project size
Materials
Land preparation
Type of landscaping
Considering so many factors, it’s not surprising that the overall costs can differ. A typical landscaping project is flower bed installation, which averages between $800 and $3,000. However, landscape lighting installation is a higher-end project, with a price tag of $2,000 to $6,000.
