"Handymack did an excellent job on our basement. They installed a bathroom with a grinder pump for the sewage, built a closet for the pump, HVAC, and hot water heater which also created storage space for us. built a kitchenette, added bead board to existing walls, installed a ship lap ceiling, and replaced two exterior doors. The finishing details were more than we asked them to do, so it was a pleasant surprise when we came home to a staged basement. It was nice to have people go the extra mile since it is so hard to find hard workers these days. I highly recommend Handymack for all your home improvement needs. They took care of everything from the building, electrical, and plumbing, and their labor cost was a fair price. Thank you, Handymack!"

"The F&J Remodeling team was awesome. Hugo came in during the first visit and documented the needs of the project very detailed. He took notes and photos and quickly turned around a quote explaining what needed to be done, provided advice on materials required and gave me a great summary of what work was required and the length of time it would take to complete. I typically do multiple quotes from contractors before my final decision. Hugo was patient during this process and once I determined he was the contractor we chose, he quickly came through ready to get started. We reviewed the original quote and he and his team got started on the work. They were efficient, clean, and organized. We removed carpet and replaced with vinyl wood floors in 3 rooms (2 children's rooms and 1 large room I use as my home office). In addition we repaired several areas in my daughter's bathroom. Repainted 2 of the 3 bedrooms and the hallway and downstairs paint was refreshed. Other minor repairs completed included replacing several light fixtures and installing a ceiling fan. We are extremely pleased with the end results and will definitely use them for future projects as well as share his contact with friends and family!"

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

This answer varies based on where you are, but most states require that all homes are greater than 320 square feet. Remember that four walls are not the only requirements—windows, closet space, minimal ceiling heights, and indoor air quality are also factors. Each state and municipality differs, though, and as some don’t consider tiny homes permanent shelters, you’ll need to check to ensure you aren’t violating any local or state laws with your build.

The timeline to build your barn will depend on the barn type and the company you hire. A pole barn may take six weeks or so, while a traditionally framed or steel-framed barn can take four months or longer. Building a barndominium takes the longest because you are essentially building a new home. You can expect barndominiums to take six months or longer to build.

It can, especially with the rising popularity of treehouses that go beyond the ones designed for kids. Adults can now use them as office spaces, yoga studios, or quiet treetop retreats. That said, a treehouse can appeal to families with children or adults who might want to convert it into a space of their own. Depending on the buyer, they may be willing to pay extra for the unique feature.

The difference between a pole barn and a stick-built barn is in the construction. Large poles in the ground provide support for pole barns. For stick-built barns, 2-by-4 or 2-by-6 lumber (known as sticks) create a frame around load-bearing beams. Stick-built construction is far more popular for residential homes. Pole barns are more cost-effective because they require fewer materials and less labor.

The most common slope, or roof pitch, for a shed is 4:12 or four inches of height for every horizontal foot. For areas that experience heavy snow loads, a steeper roof of 6:12 or 9:12 is best.
