"A coworker needed some welding work done, and had a guy sent over. He came over while I was at his house and was able to see him in action cutting and welding a custom table frame. Very polite and professional, he worked diligently and skillfully until the job was done. Great quality work for an affordable cost. The next time I need any welding or torching work done, I have got his card. Preciate the educational evening, Mr. Devoss."

"Trumpet Welding did a terrific job. Timothy visited my home and made an assessment of the job with photos. He responded promptly with a cost competitive quote. Within 3 days, Timothy and his dad were at my home and took care of the job. They cut off the existing hinges, reset the steel gate post in concrete, and welded new hinges onto the gate and post - along with all the other work required. They started the job in the late afternoon and finished it before leaving for the day even though that meant working using headlamps after sunset. What stands out is the competitive price, sense of urgency to complete the job, and their complete honesty and professionalism throughout the process. I would highly recommend them for any similar mobile welding job or gate work in the future."

Welding questions, answered by experts

Welding is the process of using extreme heat—and, sometimes, pressure—to attach two pieces of metal. In contrast, metal fabrication is a more involved process that can include welding, sheet metal work, bending, and other forms of metal manipulation. Metal fabrication is a large-scale project that may or may not involve welding, while welding is more often a step in larger fabrication projects.

Choosing the right metal fabricator for your project begins with research. Find a reputable fabrication company by searching for reputable contractors in your area, and then reviewing photos of their previous work, customer reviews, and photos of the company’s workshop.

Once you’ve narrowed down the list, contact the companies to ask about the types of metal fabrication projects they specialize and inquire about guarantees and warranties on workmanship. You should also ensure the company uses high-quality material, and ask about the schedule and turnaround time for your proposed project.

Yes, you can use a saw to cut metal pipes. The best saw to use is a reciprocating saw, but even a fine-tooth hacksaw can get the job done. No matter which saw you use to cut metal pipes, wear protective gear, like work gloves, safety goggles, and ear plugs. Apply a firm, steady pressure to the tool, and always ensure the pipes are secured so they don't move while you make the cuts.

Your typical household tools will not cut a metal pipe. To cut a metal pipe, you’d need more specialized tools like a pipe cutter or circular saw. Do not attempt to use these tools without taking proper safety precautions and wearing safety gear. It’s usually safer to let a pro cut a metal pipe, especially if you’re not confident in your skills with a heavy-duty saw.

This all depends on the tools you have on hand and whether you’re trying to cut a straight line or shapes.

The best tool to use for straight lines is either a circular saw or table saw. When cutting shapes, a jigsaw will be the easiest and most precise tool to use.
