"Mr. Hightower and his crew did an excellent job grading our back yard after we had a whole section of trees removed. He even came back after the dirt dried to finish smoothing it out, so it would lay right. Super happy with the fair price, hard work, and attention to detail! I would definitely use them again and recommend them :)"

"Manny and his crew were amazing. They were very professional and got the job done fast. The only downfall was the communication with scheduling to have the fence installed. They were supposed to come on a Thursday and they called 15 mins after they were supposed to be at the house. Then they rescheduled us a week later and never called us back the day before to confirm everything."

"When we could get no fence company to come out and repair our damaged fence, even though covered by insurance, Lighthouse was prompt and professional. Kept appointments unlike other companies who never showed up. And did a good, quick job repairing our fence!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.

A setback is an area of space between your fence and the property line, meaning you build a fence a few inches before your neighbor’s property begins. You can build your fence on a setback—some communities recommend this—but this means a sliver of your property will be on your neighbor’s side of your fence.

The most common height of a front yard fence is around 3 feet high, but it can vary depending on your zoning laws. If your fence is meant to create privacy, something closer to 6 feet or higher will do the trick. Most of the time, the highest fence you’ll see is 8 feet tall.

Yes, installing wrought iron fencing will usually require a building permit, as do all types of fencing. Building permits for wrought iron fencing typically cost between $150 and $500, and the price will vary based on where you live and how much your local building department charges. You may also need to pay for a property survey if you’re installing wrought iron fencing on your property line. This type of survey can cost around $500, but it prevents issues with building on neighboring properties, which can be much more expensive in the long run.

You can use a few different tactics to prevent your deck gate from sagging. Aside from using strong, rot-resistant woods, introducing a diagonal element—such as a tension rod or solid piece of wood to act as a brace—across the gate will offer better support. You can also use rigid joists to prevent the gate from sagging.
