"I had a stained glass window that came from my grandparents church that burned down. The window was a memorial for my grand father, purchased by my grand mother back in 1984. The glass was originally apx 4' wide x apx 8' tall. We managed to salvage the glass after the fire but it came down in 3 pieces and was pretty damaged. I sent Ricky pictures of what I had and he gave me a very reasonable price to repair the window per my desires and specifications. I asked him to cut it down to apx 2'-8 wide x apx 5' tall so that it could fit in my office at my home. I was so pleased when I received the glass back after repairs were made. I could not have been more satisfied! You would have to see what he had to work with to appreciate it more. I now have the window placed in my home within an existing window casing. It is so beautiful and I cannot quit showing it off. I have sent pictures to those that aren't able to see the actual window and have gotten so many compliments. So thank you Ricky and team for doing such a splendid job. I am truly thankful. I would definitely recommend Lanier Stained Glass to anyone needing this service. I truly believe that you couldn't go wrong."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

New glass costs anywhere from $3 to $100 per square foot. More specifically, tempered and insulated glass—a common option for sliding glass doors—costs between $10 and $14 per square foot.

You can still see vaguely into some types of glass block windows at night. Although there won’t be clear definitions, passersby may still see shapes, shadows, and movement through the glass. If you want complete privacy, consider installing diamond glass block windows rather than the typical clear or wavy glass blocks.

Yes, professionals can install decorative or colored glass block patterns for a unique look.

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.
