After working in the industry for almost 10 years, Ross decided it was time to start out on his own. He has years of experience in managing and running garden centers and outlet stores. "I had contacted several companies to give us prices on a patio and a fire pit. I chose Olde Savannah because their price was reasonable and they actually seemed interested in the job. Heather worked with me to design the perfect outdoor patio and fire pit! I was one of those picky customers who made changes throughout the design process, yet Heather remained patient through it all! I had shopped around prior to choosing Olde Savannah. I found their prices to be on the lower side when compared to some of the others; but even more than price, I chose them because they had a great attitude, were professional, and Heather simply had great design ideas which really made for a stunning patio!! So happy I chose them!!"

The depth of your decomposed granite depends on its intended use, but around 3 to 4 inches is the most common depth. Driveways that need to support a lot of weight should be at a depth of no less than 6 inches. Walkways that won’t see a lot of weight but lots of foot traffic should be built at a depth of 3 to 4 inches, and patios should also be between 3 and 4 inches deep.

Permits depend on local regulations concerning street use and public spaces. Check requirements with community authorities to avoid fines or logistical issues.

You can use regular sand as the base for your pavers and in between pavers to seal the joints. Many pros reach for polymeric sand, also known as all-purpose sand, because it has been sifted and washed to remove impurities. But you can easily level ground and fill gaps between pavers for a clean look using regular sand, sometimes at a lower cost.

You should use mulch because it protects garden soil in a few key ways. This extra layer between the ground and the elements protects against erosion, helps your soil maintain moisture, regulates changes in temperature, adds nutrients as it decomposes, and keeps weeds at bay.

Artificial turf usually requires some sort of base. If you’re installing the grass over soil, you’ll want to add a weed barrier (weeds can damage your fake grass) and an artificial grass sub-base . Typically, this is a mixture of gravel and sand, like crushed miscellaneous base (CMB) or decomposed granite. If you're placing turf over concrete, you can skip the sub base and use a padded underlayment.
