"Alberto with AB landscaping came by and gave me a quote for the landscaping work that included some slight grading of my back yard and installing Bermuda sod. We ordered the sod and the day before it was delivered Alberto and his crew came by and completed the grading work and returned the next day and layed the sod. Great job AB landscaping my backyard looks great. Thank you for a job well done"

"Chris is very professional and also knowledgeable about landscaping, grass, trees and lawn care. We hired C&C to trim 2 trees and remove another. The two trees that they trimmed were a Bradford Pear tree in our front yard and a very tall maple on the side of the house. They removed a dead Leyland Cypress from our back yard. Chris came out to the house for an estimate and described how he would go about handling the trees. The price was reasonable and he sounded qualified so we hired him. He had a crew of four gentlemen and they were efficient and careful in the trimming of the trees. They asked for my input as they went along to be sure that they did not trim too much. The trees look great and we have a lot more sun hitting our yard now, so hopeful the grass will start growing back. Chris also shared advice on how to help get our grass growing back again. Would definitely recommend C&C for landscaping and tree work!"

"Our basement got flooded in early January 2023 during a bad storm. We got estimates from 2 waterproofing companies. CGS Waterproofing sent a representative quickly to survey the damage and let us know what needed to be done. Nick seemed to be very knowledgeable and experienced in this type of work. An estimate from another company was considerably higher. After getting the 2nd estimate, we called the CGS rep. again (Nick) and asked him to clarify some things in his estimate. He came back out for a 2nd visit, and declined to take any compensation for the additional trip. The men who came to do the actual work were fast and efficient, did exactly what they said they would do, at the agreed-upon price, and they left no mess. We could not even tell that portions of our yard had been dug up, because they made it look like it had not been disturbed. Since then we have had several rain events and no water has even come close to our basement. I highly recommend this company."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The best landscaping for a septic drain field is shallow-rooted grass or native vegetation that helps prevent soil erosion while allowing water to evaporate efficiently. Avoid planting trees, shrubs, or deep-rooted plants near the drain field because the roots can infiltrate pipes and cause blockages. Using mulch or gravel sparingly can also help retain moisture and protect the system without restricting airflow.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

The landscaping elements that add the most value are often the basics. A well-maintained, attractive lawn can have a return on investment (ROI) of up to 217%. Routine lawn maintenance, such as edging and mulching, can provide an ROI of over 100%. Other high-value projects include upgrading your front walkway, which can offer a 100% ROI, and planting trees. Projects like adding decks, patios, outdoor lighting, irrigation systems, fire pits, and outdoor kitchens also add value and enjoyment, though their direct financial ROI may be less than 100% in some cases.

The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.

Finding a reputable greenhouse or nursery should start online, where you can read through customer reviews to gauge the quality of the plants sold and the customer experience. Look out for customers complaining about plants dying shortly after purchase, and try to choose a greenhouse known for hiring employees who are able to explain how to care for the plants you purchase. It’s also a good idea to head to a few greenhouses to see the selection they offer and make sure they carry the plants or trees you’re looking for.
