"Very responsive - came out the next day to measure the chimney and do extensive cleaning (we had wasps - ew!). They got the chimney cap replacement sooner than expected and were out within the day to replace it. Will definitely use again for any chimney needs! Highly highly suggest."

"Everything went great -- initial consultation, installation, account set-up and ongoing monitoring. The alarm went off twice in the past year. The first time, my dog set it off because I had a motion-detection monitor in a place that wasn't high enough. I was in a meeting at work and didn't receive the call from the monitoring entity, so the police were notified and came to my home and inspect (everything was fine). The second time, I accidentally triggered the alarm myself while at home. The monitoring service called me, I provided the passcode to prove it was me and everything was alright, and the police were not notified. So this basically works just like any costly alarm service -- with the same level of quality, professionalism and customer service -- but is far less expensive. I paid about $100 for the equipment and the monthly monitoring fee for the plan I selected is $42.99, which includes remote access to activate and deactivate the system (through an app available for Apple and Droid devices). I couldn't be happier with FrontPoint.

"I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for a chimney cleaning because I was unfamiliar with my gas fireplace and wanted it cleaned, inspected, and instruction on how to use it.  I had a little bit of difficulty scheduling my appointment- but Scott was polite and easy to work with once we did connect.  The appointment went well.  My chimney did not need to be cleaned, so he suggested he clean my dryer vent while he was there.  He did show me how to operate my fireplace and gave me some tips on how to improve its appearance.  He cleaned my dryer vent (which was fun for my children to watch- dust flying like snow!)  After he left, he called me to tell me there was a fireplace store very near my house that he had stopped at to see if they carried products he had recommended to me.  It was very thoughtful.  The only negative I can relate is with scheduling and punctuality- if you need a hard and fast appointment or are on a tight schedule, make sure Scott knows that otherwise their appointments seem to be more ballpark estimates.  Overall I would recommend this company.

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

As long as your solar panels are properly installed without damage to your roof, they will not shorten the roof’s life span. Solar panels can act as a cover or barrier to your roof and help block external elements, such as debris, heat, and UV rays. Reduced exposure to the weather can extend your roof’s life.

EPDM roofs have a few common problems, most of which can be resolved with regular maintenance. This type of roofing is laid down in sheets with seams, which can be a starting point for leaks. Proper installation and roof sealing can often avoid seam issues.

The material is also susceptible to tears and punctures from falling branches or other sharp objects. There are black and white versions of EPDM, and the black version is more prone to fade and succumb to UV damage. Regular roof inspections can protect the costs of rubber roof installation and extend the life of your roof.

A roof's ability to handle snow depends on its strength and the snow's weight, as wet snow is much heavier than dry, fluffy snow. While designs in snowy regions often allow for 35 to 50 pounds per square foot, a general guideline is that a typical roof can withstand about four feet of fresh snow, two feet of packed snow, or just one inch of ice. Factors like the roof's age, slope, and support structure also affect its capacity; newer, sloped roofs generally hold more weight than older, flat ones. Ice and ice dams add significant, dangerous weight. Because capacity varies, it is best to contact a professional roofing contractor or the original builder to determine the maximum snow load for your specific home.

Properly installed chimney flashing can last anywhere from 15 to 50 years. However, flashing generally only needs to be replaced when it is damaged, corroded, or no longer creates a watertight seal. Several factors influence its longevity, including the material type, quality of installation, and local climate. For example, copper flashing tends to last longer than galvanized steel. Large storms and extreme weather can also damage flashing, potentially requiring earlier replacement. To ensure its longevity, it is recommended to have your chimney and roof inspected annually. A professional can assess the flashing's condition and recommend any necessary repairs.

Architectural shingles and impact-resistant shingles aren’t mutually exclusive, which means some architectural shingles are impact-resistant shingles. Architectural shingles are thicker and more durable than standard 3-tab shingles, and they become even stronger when they also have high impact resistance and wind resistance ratings. The most durable shingles for areas with extreme weather are architectural or luxury shingles that have a Class-4 impact resistance and a Class-H wind resistance that can stand up to winds reaching 150 mph.
