"I had been trying to find a company that would handle a a rather small residential grading job for site prep before installing a fence. J&J contacted me at around 11am and arrived on-site an hour later to provide a very reasonable quote. Afterwards, they returned with their equipment and very efficiently handled the project exactly to my specifications. I am extremely pleased with every step of services provided and highly recommend this company. Thank you again for getting my project prioritized and completed!"

Small jobs welcome

"Remodeling is a tough job when you are living in the house. The owner (Jeremy) his workers took all necessary precautions to keep my house as clean as possible. They would clean the work area daily. The guys were as polite as I've seen. Very hard workers and trust worthy. You could not ask for better work quality. The finished product was amazing! I would recommend for any type of job. We will be using again for sure"

"Had my driveway and basketball court converted from cement to asphalt. They did both in one day including demolition and paving. They treated my property with respect and caused no residual damage. Excellent communication and service throughout. I highly recommend Spalding Concrete."

Recycled asphalt is a durable choice for a driveway, but doesn’t have the same appearance and low maintenance as standard asphalt. For long driveways in rural communities, recycled asphalt can make a great choice. Recycled asphalt is 20% to 30% percent less expensive than standard asphalt and is better for the environment.

Many asphalt companies have experience with tar and chip paving, but not all. The process is unique enough—and not incredibly common enough—that you may have to look around for a tar and chip specialist. However, speaking with a driveway company is a great place to start, especially if they have experience with multiple materials.

Decomposed granite and caliche can both harden into a solid surface using a plate compactor. However, due to decomposed granite’s fine particles, it’s not suitable for driveway surfaces. Some homeowners use pea gravel mixed with a gravel-binding resin to bind the loose stones and create a solid surface that won’t shift like loose gravel.

Paving is a part of hardscaping, so all paving is hardscaping, but not all hardscaping is paving. Paving involves laying down concrete or asphalt, while hardscaping can also include the use of paving stones, bricks, gravel, wood, and more. Hardscape features that involve paving are considered permanent and will increase your property taxes, while some other hardscaping features—like those involving bricks, gravel, and paving stones—will not affect property taxes. Paving also typically requires a permit, while hardscaping features considered temporary will not.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.
