Small jobs welcome

"Justin did a real 5 star job. He was friendly, responsible, fair, and very easy to work with. He first pressure wash the entire house. Then he took tremendous care to tape over all windows and areas that were not to be painted. He covered all my plants so they wouldn’t be hurt. He was very neat with no over spray on any unwanted areas. After he started I asked him to do some extra work and he did it for a very fair price. If you want a responsible, fair, and professional company to paint the outside of your house, this is it. I recommend Justin 1000%."

"I had a horrible realtor (Jordan Dennis Century 21) sell me a home with surprise half dollar sized holes throughout, left wall work unfinished, and just stopped answering the phone altogether in my out of state closing. Edge Painting cleaned up poorly done work from another contractor, painted my entire house and made the walls look great. The crew was very thorough and a pleasure to work with. Everyone was so kind and fast. They worked with me with scheduling to get me in as soon as possible and had other services available such as pressure washing which I needed badly. Someone even installed my new door handle which wasn't even in the contract just because they are nice like that. I highly recommend Edge Painting. You will not be disappointed. #shoplocal"

Customers say: Quick response

"Roland and his team did a fantastic job, they hit the trifecta: 5 star quality, 5 star service and 5 star value. Roland gave us great advice that helped us pick the best quality paint. His team was also very professional and went above and beyond by touching up a few spots on the ceiling from a prior paint job (we just bought the house). Roland also completed the job ½ ahead of schedule."

"Leo and crew did a great job taking care of the house trim. They cleaned, prepared and painted the house trim. More importantly, they left the area spotless after the finished painting. Very happy with the results."

"Michael was great to work with. He accommodated my crazy schedule and did a wonderful job making my new home look fresh and clean. He took the time to remove all the shelving, studio mirrors, and patched all the holes prior to painting. I would recommend him and his team!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

You should stain both sides of your fence to get the full benefits. Fences often fall along property lines, so you may want to save a buck by leaving your neighbor’s side in the dust. If you do that, all you get is a slightly better view. Moisture and UV rays can still sneak in through the side that’s unpainted or worn down and damage your fence. Rot and rust will spread, even if you can’t see it from your side of the lawn.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.

Generally, these steps are included in exterior house painting:

  • Prepping and protecting the areas not being painted

  • Scraping away loose paint

  • Cleaning off dirt, grease, and debris

  • Caulking gaps and openings

  • Priming with a quality paint primer

  • Painting the prepared areas, including trim and accents with chosen paint finish

  • Adding a second coat

  • Cleaning up the site and disposing of tape, plastic, and drop cloths

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.
