"I worked with Robert to design a replacement for our old rotten deck. The work was done quickly and professionally. His crew was polite and efficient. Once they started I had a brand new strong deck to enjoy in 6 hours. Thank you Robert and crew."

"Communication (from the immediate response to our initial inquiry, to consistent, fast email/text responses throughout the project), and overall customer service, was fast and easy, from beginning to end. Drew and his team did a wonderful job rebuilding our front deck/porch. They were quick, efficient and so clean. The final product well exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to work with them again. We highly recommend Overall Outdoor Services, and Drew Cahill specifically."

"Ed called immediately and scheduled an appointment on the same day. He supplied photos and explained the work required. Ed worked me into their schedule to be able to repair before the rains came again. They fixed all issues (painted some areas at no charge) and gave me peace of mind. Very nice family run company. I would highly recommend them to everyone."

"Although I was not able to hire this company because they were booked well into the next month and I needed the service done immediately, I was so impressed by Brendon's excellent customer service I will definitely hire him for my next job without question. He called me back the same day and apologized for not being able to accommodate my next day request. He then left a detailed message answering every question and concern I had left in my voicemail to him. He offered suggestions on what the job should entail, the average going rate and tips on how to prevent the issue with my pool deck pavers in the future. I highly recommend him for his professionalism, knowledge and helpfulness. Based on his reviews and booked schedule I'm sure his work is excellent too!"

Leaves? Pine Needles? Green Walls? Grungy Driveways? With almost 20yrs years experience, I can help you keep your home looking its best and save you $$$ on repair costs! The Number one cause of fascia board rot and soffit damage is gutters that do not drain properly due to the build up of organic debris such as leaves and pine needles. Keeping your gutters clean will certainly reduce maintenance costs and also help to keep the termites away from your eve's and overhangs. Does your home suffer from green walls due to algae growing on them? Algae growth is a sure fire way to ruin a good paint job. Keeping your homes siding clean keeps the algae growth at bay and preserves the life of your exterior paint job. Sparkling clean windows are something we all enjoy but hate to keep clean. Your clean windows are only a phone call away. While I am busy cleaning your gutters ask me about doing your windows while I am there. I would be happy to do them for you! Living in an environment where salt air abounds hard surfaces such as driveways and sidewalks like to turn black from this salty residue. Clean driveways keep your house looking as good as it did the day it was built and clean driveways also reduce the grime that ultimately gets tracked into the home.

"Joe and his team from Island Property Maintenance and Repairs were fantastic from start to finish. Joe was responsive to my needs and was more than willing to quote the job in stages so that I could monitor my budget. I paid the company as the job progressed. Joe sent out a three man team and these men were professional, talented and worked hard all day. They continually checked with me about any issues as they arose. I would highly recommend Island Property Maintenance and Repairs and will definitely use them again for any future projects."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Coping is the material that lines the perimeter of a pool and seals the transition between the top of the pool wall and the water. Decking surrounds the poolscape and extends far beyond the water's edge to provide a safe walking and lounging area. In short, coping is the border between the decking and the pool itself.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Yes, you can build a deck around a fire pit, as long as it is safely enclosed, meets code requirements, and is at least 15 feet away from your home. You’ll want to ensure you have a heat-resistant barrier between the fire pit and your deck to prevent any structural damage and fires. A galvanized ring surrounded by pavers, brick, or stone makes for a beautiful, safe, and sturdy design.

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.
