Customers say: Quick response

"Cory replaced some damaged boards in our glue-down wood floor, which was an intricate project given that he had to remove tongue-and-groove boards and replace them with new ones without removing the whole floor and without damaging the surrounding boards. He made the floor look like new, and in a very affordable way. This was one of a number of jobs he has done for us over a decade or so. He is always prompt, courteous and professional. His prices are extremely fair, and he is always honest about his level of confidence in his ability to do any given job. If he tells you he knows exactly how to do a job, you can count on it."

"Adrian did a great job. I would recommend him hands down. He replaced my fence in a Timely manner. Reasonable price also cut down some trees for me and I’m going to have him come back and do some painting for me because he did such a great job. He’s also a very nice person."

"Valeria and Juan were wonderful to work with. I hired Juan and team to fix numerous troubled areas I had with my Level 5 finish in my condo in Cocoa Beach, FL. I live in Chicago so I needed to hire someone I trusted. Juan went above and beyond to get the job done. I received 3 other bids and by far Juan provided the best service for the money- BY FAR. Juan and his team were always on time and put in extra hours to get the job done quickly. It was really quite a lot of work and they did a great job and kept my condo very clean. After fixing the walls and ceilings, Juan and his team painted pretty much my entire condo. I am so happy I hired Done Deal. This is a family business, they work hard, and provide amazing customer service."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

You can use a few different tactics to prevent your deck gate from sagging. Aside from using strong, rot-resistant woods, introducing a diagonal element—such as a tension rod or solid piece of wood to act as a brace—across the gate will offer better support. You can also use rigid joists to prevent the gate from sagging.

Deck stairs should have at least three stringers rather than two. The recommended minimum width for stairs is 36 inches, and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors recommends at least three cut stringers to provide sufficient support on wood decking stairs of this width. Generally, stringers should be a maximum of 16 inches apart for wood decking and 12 inches apart for more flexible composite decking.

The problems with composite decking include a high rate of expansion and contraction from temperature swings. This characteristic can cause boards to split, delaminate, or peel. In addition, significant movement can cause shrinking, warping, twisting, and bending. For this reason, you should minimize moisture and ensure proper airflow below your deck.

In most cases, there should be a small gap between the house and the deck, usually no more than ½ to ¾ of an inch. This space allows water and moisture to flow through instead of pooling against the side of your house. It also lets flashing protect your siding from runoff, which is one of the most common issues with decks.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.
