Small jobs welcome

"I hired BM Services in January to power wash the exterior of my property. I was told the job would take about two hours and that the technician would arrive at 7:00 a.m. — which I honestly doubted since it was 38 degrees in South Florida that morning! To my surprise, the technician arrived at 6:50 a.m., fully prepared and ready to work. He did an outstanding job cleaning the exterior of my property and even went above and beyond by cleaning additional surfaces that weren’t part of our original agreement. He was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to give helpful recommendations for future services. I was extremely impressed with the quality of work and will definitely be using BM Services again. Highly recommend!"

"Omar is THE BEST. There is no one more professional. His pricing is fair, his attention to detail is outstanding. The product installed is superb. He listens to all of your needs, and accommodates each and every one. He arrives 10-15 minutes BEFORE he is expected, and is completely prepared. He is neat, clean, and professional. If you don't hire Omar, then you are missing out. You can't beat him, or this company. In fact, I'm going to search for some more tasks for him to do. He is excellent!"

Deck Cleaning FAQs, answered by experts

When installing deck boards, screws are generally a better option than nails. Screws offer superior holding strength over time, keeping the boards securely in place. In contrast, nails are more likely to pop out, which can create a tripping hazard. While you can use either, we recommend using 3-inch galvanized deck screws. To minimize the risk of cracking the wood, it's a good practice to drill small pilot holes before driving the screws into the deck joists.

The best paver for your pool deck depends on your budget, style, and how much maintenance you’re willing to invest. Granite is one of the best low-cost pavers for pool decks. It’s very slip-resistant and durable, too, making it a top pick. Travertine is a high-quality material that resists freeze-thaw cycles, looks stunning, and won’t get hot in the summer. The only downside to travertine is that it costs more than granite.

Most building codes list a minimum width of 36 inches and a maximum height of 7¾ inches. However, for the most comfort and spaciousness, you’ll want to aim for a width of at least 48 inches and a height of 7 inches. Again, it’s always a good idea to base your numbers off steps that you already use comfortably.

How long it takes to install composite decking depends on the size of the decking material, the skills of the person installing the deck, the number of people helping, and how much prep work needs to be done before you can begin. Generally speaking, it takes anywhere from a few days to several weeks to build a composite deck.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.
