"I hired Wes because it was a family-owned business and at a good price. My grout hadn't been cleaned in 15 years,so it might not all come up.The guys who cleaned the grout were friendly and did a great job! A pleasant experience.I recommend them!"

Small jobs welcome

"Netty and Manny arrived on time and went to work. Three pieces of furniture were cleaned, then they started on the carpet. Drying time was minimal (3 hours), and the high traffic area looks almost new. We are quite impressed with their eco-friendly chemicals."

"Although the workers were on time and enthusiastic and truly wanted to do a good job and please the customer (me) I had to remind them to go back and clean up and I had to point out smears on several vents and request them to retouch the paint! With more training I know the workers who came to do the work could be more through and do a really great job! The screws also needed to be tightened after the workers left. Again using a checklist and more training could resolve this! There was miscommunication as to exactly what service would be done and the price! I originally contracted for cleaning 9 vents and cleaning the ducts but after the workers came to see my ac ducts they recommended a painting/coating of the ducts and I agreed to the additional work. As to the vents- The issue was that I had paint to match the existing color of all the vents but the job only included spray painting with white paint. Due to additional cost and the fact that it would be a more time consuming job and would require coming back another day.I agreed to having vents spray painted white but I would have appreciated more options even if more costly! And when I originally contracted the work. I also told them I had 9 vents but they only did 7-telling me the remaining two didn’t need removal/cleaning-however they remained the original color so now the majority of vents are white and don’t match! As I explained when I first called my vents were very dirty and I had not been successful in cleaning them myself and akso that the vents were quite old! I can recommend Duct Dr- but be very specific as to exactly what the work will be and maybe get an estimate only after the company actually views your vents/ducts in your home! I do find the company honest and reliable! That is rare these day!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best way to clean your decking is to clear debris from the gaps between the boards, sweep the surface, rinse it, apply cleaner, rinse again, and let it dry fully. A homemade deck cleaner made of two gallons of warm water and 1/2 cup vinegar is a simple cleaning solution for both wood and composite decking. You can sprinkle baking soda on any spots with mold or mildew, then scrub the area and rinse clean.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation, substructure, or subframe to ensure stability. This base is typically composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame's joists can be built from various materials like composite, plastic, timber, or metal, as long as the base can support the deck's weight without shifting. A professional deck builder might recommend installing the frame on a solid concrete base for added durability. The final design and materials for the substructure will depend on your budget, the type of deck, and environmental conditions.

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.
