"Scott is a very dedicated, talented and customer pleasing man! He gladly came back and retouched the stain on the new front door he installed... 3 times! The door itself was expertly installed and his advice from the start was invaluable. Call him! You will be so glad you did...we are!"

"Amazing work! Will has the expertise, tools and professional eye for detail to do any project. He has helped our company multiple times with everything from basic shelving to complete interior finishing remodeling work- floors to ceiling. I call him to handle any of our improvements. He is completely trustworthy, always cleans up after his work and returns unused supplies. He is also creative, coming up with solutions and building something unique for a project just by my description of my goals. "Jeffrey came by himself when he said he would and went right to work. It took a few days but he got the wallpaper off and did not damage anything in the kitchen while working. He had to mud one area so it took a couple of days to paint the walls. He paints quickly and professionally and cleans up as he goes. Jeffrey applied two coats of paint with the gallon I had already purchased. I found very few paint drops and most were tiny. He is the neatest painter I have ever used. I always expect some mess from construction, but his was minor. He caulked the counters and then trimmed them out again with paint. Even his cleanup was neat. I am very pleased with everything he did and highly recommend him. I plan to use him for pressure washing and to re-stain and paint my front door."

"We had a lot of rotten boards on our deck and a large section by the pool that was beyond repair. Mike did a great job replacing rotten boards and completely redoing the section by the pool including replacing the trusses. We are very happy with how everything turned out."

"Jared, with Southern House Wash was so friendly and helpful over the phone. He showed up on time; even though I didn’t have to be there. He took great care of my fixtures and plants during the cleaning process. My house looks new again and my neighbors are all asking for his number! It feels great to be able to recommend a quality guy for the job! We will be scheduling with him whenever our space needs cleaning. Highly recommend!!!"

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Whether composite decking is better than wood depends on your priorities, especially regarding budget and maintenance. Composite decking offers superior longevity (30 to 50 years) and durability, and it is low-maintenance, requiring no sanding, staining, or sealing. In contrast, wood decks typically last 10 to 30 years and need refinishing every few years. While the upfront cost of composite is higher than wood, the reduced maintenance can lead to long-term savings. If a lower initial cost is the primary factor, wood is the more affordable choice.

Local building codes don’t specify the number of steps a deck can have before a railing is required, mainly because stair height varies widely. Most areas require decks 30 inches or higher to have a railing. While not exact, that roughly equates to four to seven steps.

No, termites do not eat Trex or any other composite decking brand. Termites eat cellulose, of which composite decking like Trex contains very little compared to natural wood. This feature can help justify the higher Trex decking costs if you live in an area with abundant termites.

Staining and sealing the underside of a deck creates a moisture barrier but traps water in the boards, quickly leading to rot. No matter how well you seal the above deck, water still gets through via nails and screw heads on the surface. Allow this water to flow naturally under the deck, where it is routed through the drainage system.

You can use a few different tactics to prevent your deck gate from sagging. Aside from using strong, rot-resistant woods, introducing a diagonal element—such as a tension rod or solid piece of wood to act as a brace—across the gate will offer better support. You can also use rigid joists to prevent the gate from sagging.
