"Martinez Wood Floors is a great company to work with. They are very responsible and accommodating with their customers. We recently bought a house with old tile floors that needed to be replaced before moving in. We started shopping around to see how much the project was going to cost us and he companies that were in the market. We like to hire trustworthy people that
are going to answer if something goes wrong, so we take very seriously the process of hiring a contractor. We got a couple of estimates from some of the companies featured here in Angie?s List, but their prices and schedule were not convincing. Thank God, we got in touch with Martinez Wood Floors. They were very caring since the first phone call answering all our questions, not like other companies that made us feel like if we were wasting their time. Their price is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive one; they ask what they need to do a good job.
We also bought the wood from them; they have beautiful European Oaks for an excellent price. Highly recommend their Bellezza
Collection, it?s just amazing. So, we ended up doing everything with them and it was very convenient because we did not want different people in our home. The wood arrived on the following week, free shipping is a pro, and took about a week to acclimate it. During that time, they removed the tile and prepared the conditions to install the floor. The installation process was a breeze. I
thought there was going to be a lot of dust, but that was not the case. They were very organized and clean. The owner was always on top of the employees to make sure everything went smoothly. I did take the time to tell them whenever something did not look the way I wanted and that is something that every homeowner should do. They were always willing to correct any imperfections that might had been left without any problem, and we appreciate that. We give them an A+ on communication and customer service, they even gave us a cleaning kit to take care of the floors afterwards. This is the way you do business. Thank you             Mr. Martinez for the amazing job! Floors look great and we would be more than willing to recommend Martinez Wood Floors to anybody looking to have hardwood floors either install or refinish.

"A team of two men over four days moved the furniture from each area, then cleaned, degreased and machine buffed each 12 x 12 inch tile and hand scrubbed the grout lines in each wing of the house.   Some areas of the grout had to be hand scrubbed a second time.  The grout had to be completely dry before it could be sealed so an additional day was needed. On the sixth day from the time the job was started, all of the floor was sealed; it quickly dried and the furniture replaced. The entire house floor was sealed.   We were told by Francisco Garcia, the business owner, that the sealing should last several years.  He provided us with a specific floor cleaning product  and told us to use a wet vacuum to suck up the water so as to avoid re-depositing dirty water into the grout. The tile and grout looks very nice.

"Mr.Fernandez did excellent work. He had to carry tiles, mud set and grout up a circular stairway and didn't charge extra for that. He leveled the patio so all areas would drain properly- no puddling. His price was very reasonable. Would definitely hire him again. A very conscientious person"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The average cost for tile installation is about $2,000, with a typical price range between $500 and $6,500. On a per-square-foot basis, you can expect to pay between $5 and $45 for installation.

Several factors influence the total cost, including:

  • Installation Site: Costs vary for different areas. Common project costs are: kitchen floor ($870–$6,100), countertop or backsplash ($500–$3,000), bathroom floor ($300–$2,400), or shower wall ($225–$2,000).

  • Tile Type and Quality: The material significantly impacts price. For example, standard ceramic or travertine tile can cost about $1 per square foot, while luxury options like marble can be as much as $350 per square foot for the material alone.

  • Project Size and Complexity: The total square footage, the complexity of the pattern, and the shape of the tile (e.g., square, rectangle, hexagon, mosaic) will affect labor and material costs.

  • Site Preparation: The amount of prep work needed, such as removing old tile or installing a new subfloor or backer board, can add to the final price.

  • Tile Characteristics: The tile's durability rating and porosity can also influence the price.

  • Location: Labor rates vary by geographic location.

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

If you hire a professional to install a new floor, you can expect to pay between $50 and $75 per hour for labor. It takes two days on average to install a new floor as part of a bathroom remodeling project, but your timeline depends on your bathroom’s size and layout.

Many homeowners have successfully retiled a bathroom themselves. It can be a challenging but rewarding process, but it’s best for someone who already has at least intermediate DIY skills.
