It’s usually cheaper to buy pre-made fence panels than to build your own. This surprises many people since DIY tasks so often save money. However, large stores don’t have to pay the same amount per board of wood that homeowners do, allowing them to sell pre-made panels at a more cost-effective rate. Large breeds that are also excellent jumpers, such as Greyhounds, may need a 7-foot high fence. 

One of the best alternatives to a snow fence is to plant a living snow fence of grasses, shrubs, trees, and crops like corn. Another temporary option is using hay bales to create a barrier to disrupt the wind flow, and cause snow to accumulate in specific areas. However, hay bales are not a permanent option, so keep that in mind when choosing what type of snow fence you should install.

In addition to the fence itself, several factors can impact the overall price of putting a fence in. Consider these add-ons and necessary expenses when building your project budget. For example, additional cost factors may include:

  • Removing your existing fence

  • Land leveling and other site work

  • Tree and stump removal

  • New landscaping

  • Working around underground utilities
