"Don and his team are wonderful. The are quick, efficient and priced right. They performed a carpet installation for our entire 2nd Floor. A year later we had an area that needed to be stretched and Don came and took care of it. He's a man of his word which is unfortunately becoming rare these days. No worries if you pick Certified Flooring as your home pro!"

"Brian was very pleasent and knowledgeable to work with. I had been a carpet installer helper years ago so I had a good idea what I needed and what could be done. I needed carpet that would not show a seam as the room was very large. He showed me samples of carpet he could guarantee not to show a seam and carpet he could not guarantee. He came in and laid the pad the first day and the carpet the next. As far as I am concerned the job was done perfectly and professionally. He arrivied on time or called keeping us informed. We are very happy with his work. He was also able to save us almost 1000 dollars over the store prices."

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

Vacuum regularly, clean spills promptly, and schedule professional deep cleaning annually.

It is not recommended to install or stretch a carpet without a power stretcher. Skipping essential tools like a power stretcher and a knee kicker will likely result in an improper installation, leaving you with wrinkles, creases, and an unappealing final look. While a knee kicker can provide some limited stretching for thinner carpets, it is not a proper substitute. Attempting to stretch a carpet by hand or with homemade tools can also shorten its lifespan. For the best results, you should buy or rent a stretcher. If you do not want to use a stretcher, it is better to hire a professional for the installation.

You can use a carpet patch to replace a single section of carpet. You’ll cut out the damaged section and then replace it with a caret patch. The patch should be the same color as the existing carpet. You can also hire a professional carpet repair company to get it done.

In addition to having your carpets professionally cleaned, most carpet cleaners offer a range of supplemental services and treatments, including:

  • Patching and repairing holes: $100–$250 per hole

  • Carpet stretching to remove wrinkles: $60 per hour

  • Water extraction: $450–$2,000, depending on square footage

  • Pet stain and odor removal: $30–$50 per hour

  • Furniture and upholstery cleaning: $50–$80 per item

  • Furniture moving and removal: $10–$50 per item

  • Padding replacement: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Teflon treatment: $20–$40 per project

  • Environmentally friendly carpet cleaning: $100–$200 per room

While some carpet repair kits exist and only cost around $15, they are not usually appropriate for Berber repair. Typically, they include small pieces of fibers to use as patches, and Berber carpets are typically colored very differently from other kinds of carpets. This is why it is imperative to try and locate a spare piece of carpet from your original installation when you need to patch up an area.

In addition, the tools these kits include are often watered-down versions of the ones you can buy individually from your local hardware store (e.g., the glue in the kit will not be as strong as your hot glue gun or the double-sided carpet tape).
