"First time hiring KDK Maintenance Co.. Everything was done in a professional manner. The owner Kyle came out to do the job & did we both did a walk thru around my 1 1/2 acre area of my fenced in yard. I only needed him to do mowing & fertilizer. I did all the weed wacking myself. I am super happy with this company. Made a maintenance schedule for this company to come back. My first time I used a professional to maintain my yard. I was very impressed when I talk with him for a price & how many times I wanted him to mow. Other companies only come out every 2 weeks . I needed someone to come out every 3 weeks. That was a plus to me. If your looking for a great professional to maintain your yard this is the company for you. You will not be disappointed."

"We recently had the pleasure of working with Peyton Penland on a paver project for our driveway and extended pool deck, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, Peyton was punctual, professional, and highly skilled. He communicated clearly throughout the process, showed up when he said he would, and delivered exceptional work that truly exceeded our expectations. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in the paver installation were outstanding, and the finished product has completely transformed our outdoor space. If you’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work and follows through on their promises, we highly recommend Peyton Penland. He made the entire experience seamless and stress-free."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Multiple rules of thumb exist when discussing tree planting. When planting a tree, the best rule of thumb is to provide it with everything it needs to survive and thrive in its new environment. That may mean learning about the type of tree you're planting and studying the best methods of taking care of it before purchasing and planting.

Moss attaches to the ground but doesn’t have roots, so it can take four to six weeks for establishment to begin. It takes between 12 and 18 months for full coverage, and maximum thickness takes about two years. Keep your moss moist and debris-free to ensure it establishes itself well.

Monkey grass makes a beautiful, low-maintenance ground cover, particularly in shadier areas where other grasses don’t receive enough sunlight to grow. It’s also excellent for edging walkways, bordering flower beds, and accenting rock gardens. You can grow it as a container plant, as well, which is a perfect solution for those who love its foliage but want to contain the spread.

The best size rock for your landscaping depends on the design, as different boulders serve different purposes. If you want to group boulders to create a natural-looking cluster, you’ll need a range of sizes. Otherwise, here are some suggestions:

  • Small boulders (smaller than 12 inches across): Best for landscape edging and fire pits

  • Medium boulders (12–24 inches): Best for retaining walls and water features

  • Large boulders (more than 24 inches): Best as standalone landscaping features, steps, or walkways.

Of course, you can mix and match sizes to create a unique display.

Pavers are one of the most affordable methods of creating an elevated outdoor space. Gravel is an equally affordable alternative. If your budget permits, you can look into building a permeable driveway to ensure proper drainage. Grid pavers, pervious concrete, brick, and brick pavement are all effective materials. Permeable driveways are great options, especially if you live in an area with heavy rainstorms.
