"I had a really good experience with Hometown Contractors. Jordan was honest, professional, and actually took the time to explain everything in a way that made sense. I appreciated that he wasn?t trying to upsell me or push work that didn?t need to be done. The whole process felt straightforward and stress-free, and the quality of the work came out great. You can tell they actually care about doing the job the right way. I?d definitely recommend them and would use them again"

"Wells Asphalt Paving did a great job! One day to tear out the old driveway and put in new gravel base, then a few days later laid the new asphalt. Efficient, explained things well and most important, did a great job at a reasonable cost. The neighbors are already commenting on day one!"

"I needed to have my driveway sealcoated for the first time. I found J.R. Asphalt Repairs on HomeAdvisor. James called me the next day and he was excellent to deal with. He was very professional and informative on what I needed. The job was completed just days later. He worked around my schedule. James and his brothers worked so well together that they completed the job in an amazing 1.5 hours. Long before the threat of rain. I was impressed! My 250 feet of driveway is now sealed, protected and looks great! Thanks guys! Ron H. Orlando, FL"

"Dealing with the owner, Steve, all went well from start to finish. I called him and left a message. Within an hour he returned my call. I asked him if he did concrete driveway repair and if so could he give me a quote on how much it would cost. The same day he came out looked at driveway and quoted me his price. The next day I called him and asked him to do the job. Within four days the job was completed. Excellent work. I would strongly recommend his service to anyone needing this type of work. "We ordered about 28 Gorell windows from them for a remodel.  The second floor was completely rebuilt so we had both new construction and replacement windows.  The salesman was very nice, but maybe not so experienced.  He had our blueprint plans to work with, but missed the fact that we needed tempered glass or impact window over the tub to meet code.  He definitely should have known this.  Also, in some places we put 2 windows side by side which requires a mullion (the piece that goes between them to anchor them together).  We got the runaround when we tried to get the mullions from them.  Couldn't get a straight answer out of them, they kind of tried to act like it was something the installer should get and they didn't have them, then they changed their tune and got them for us.

All in all, we're happy with the windows, just not the company.  Unreturned calls, mistakes, etc.   I'd say if you buy windows from them, let your contractor deal with them and make sure the order is right and complete.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Whether you should resurface or replace your asphalt driveway heavily depends on its condition. If the foundation is solid and the damage is minor, resurfacing is your best bet because it’s more affordable and faster than replacing the driveway. But if your driveway has foundational problems and/or severe damage, like large, deep cracks and potholes, then it makes more sense to replace it.

New asphalt typically needs 24 to 72 hours to dry before it can handle light foot traffic and careful driving. Although it may appear solid after a few days, the full curing process, where the asphalt reaches its peak strength, takes much longer—generally from 30 days to a year.

During this extended curing time, the surface remains relatively soft and can be damaged by heavy vehicles, sharp objects, or high temperatures. To protect your investment, it's best to avoid parking heavy machinery on the asphalt until it has fully cured.

The exact time required for drying and curing depends on several factors, including the weather, the specific asphalt mix, and its thickness. For the most accurate advice tailored to your situation, consult with your asphalt contractor.

Three inches is a great thickness for a residential asphalt driveway that sees minimal to moderate traffic from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. However, a thicker driveway can better withstand the weight of a heavier vehicle, such as a trailer or a recreational vehicle. If you drive a heavy vehicle on a thin driveway, you risk cracking and damaging it.

The cost to pour a driveway apron depends on the material and size. Concrete costs $3 to $10 per square foot, asphalt ranges from $2 to $5, and pavers are $5 to $15 per square foot. Additional expenses, like excavation, base material, and labor, can increase the total cost. For example, a standard 12x15-foot concrete apron could cost between $540 and $1,800, depending on local rates and additional work required. Always consult a local driveway paving contractor to get an accurate estimate tailored to your project.

Concrete is typically the best material for a driveway if you’re looking for longevity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance. But, it’s not ideal for areas with annual freeze-frost cycles, nor is it the most attractive option—although you can get it stamped or painted. If your location is consistently below freezing, asphalt may be a better choice.
