"This turned out to be a difficult job. What we'd both expected was a straightforward deck repainting. But it turned out that most of the underlying deck structure had severe damage and had to be replaced. Joseph DiStefano located someone to do the restoration, keeping an eye on things, and then followed up with the repainting/staining job. It took much longer than I'd expected because of these complications, but I felt like the project was moving forward and in appropriate time, so didn't worry. Joe DiStefano was very good to work with -- a hard worker and clearly eager to please."

"Jonathan Penny supervised and was very conscious of work done on a daily basis. Corrections were completed as soon as the weather and time allowed. He was very helpful in recommending material that was long lasting and up-to-date for outside use. My evaluation of cost may be my lack of knowledge as Mr Penny suggested I may want a second opinion. I trusted Angieslist."

"We had a bilco door that leaked water into the basement steps. We needed our basement bilco door sealed and Juan was able to stop some of the leaking. He also sealed a crack in our front steps. He worked diligently on both areas and well into the evening. We appreciated his work ethic and his pleasant demeanor. Juan did his best with our project. However, we feel the door may need replacing."

Childproofing questions, answered by experts

A professional childproofer will first survey your home to identify potentially dangerous locations, including stairs, cabinets, and pools. Once approved, your professional will order and install the safety equipment for you.

Some ways a childproofing professional will make your home safe include:

  • Anchoring large furniture

  • Installing safety gates

  • Installing safety latches on cabinets and drawers

  • Covering railings that could trap a child

  • Covering electrical outlets

  • Installing a swimming pool fence

  • Removing or covering electrical cords where possible

Many parents, especially first-time parents, agree that professional childproofing is worth it. These professional childproofing services are trained to recognize dangerous home situations that many people would overlook until it's too late. Furthermore, professional childproofing experts have access to top-of-the-line equipment you can't purchase at most stores, providing longevity and peace of mind.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are designed to be safe for use in homes with children. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the electrical slots when not in use, which helps protect children from electric shock if they try to insert an object. While they are the safest option available and highly effective, it's important to note that few things are truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug. For this reason, it's best to use tamper-resistant outlets over less effective solutions like plastic covers, which can be removed or pose a choking hazard. Always supervise young children around any electrical outlets or devices.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are a safe and effective way to protect children from electrical hazards. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the outlet slots when not in use, preventing a child from inserting foreign objects. While they are the safest option available, it's important to note that few things can be considered truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug, so constant supervision around any electrical device is recommended. Tamper-resistant outlets are a much safer solution than childproofing covers, which can be removed by children and may pose a choking hazard.

The average cost of childproofing services is $410. This cost can range from $190 to $630 or more, depending on the size of your home and what services you need.

The location of the childproofing additions also plays a vital role in the overall cost. For example, a bathroom is relatively small and costs about $150 to fully childproof. However, if you have a swimming pool, you could spend as much as $1,500 to $10,000 to make it entirely safe for small children, including adding a pool fence.
