"Excellent. Bruce, the painter assigned to do the work, started by putting up plastic sheeting to completely cover and protect the kitchen cabinets, cupboards, and appliances as well as to seal off the entrances to the rest of my condo. He then repaired the water-stained areas in the ceiling (involving treating or replacing damaged/discolored areas as appropriate) and allowed the products used to dry. Finally, he applied two coats of paint over the entire ceiling. The entire job was finished in less than a day."

"Sergio came out the same day to give me an estimate. He told me he could also put new lattice around the deck and gave me an estimate for that. Sergio gave me several choices for color. His crew showed up on time. They moved my grill into my garage for me. I am very pleased with the work they did. The stain looks great with the lattice work. His crew was friendly and professional. I would highly recommend this company."

Customers say: True professional

"The deck hadn't been stained in a few years and needed at least two coats of stain. When we first spoke he was fine with two coats. The stain I had purchased myself. A premium stain knowing the wood would soak it up like a sponge. When he started, I stopped by to check on the deck and he stated that it would only need one coat. I said two, as we had agreed on earlier. That's when he started giving me a hard time about the second coat. He was insistent that it only needed one. He wanted an easy in and out job. He finally agreed on two coats. When they finished there were areas that didn't even get one coat (back of one of the two benches and an area of decking next to the house). The one coat places were in areas that I guess he didn't think I'd look, behind bushes etc. , hire someone else."

"Russ tackled a job that I would call a high degree of difficulty doing structural work on an existing dwelling and deck. The guys had great attitude and got the job done with no drama!"

"I use Sunrise Painting several times a year for both my clients I refer them to and for my own properties. He gets my quotes completed quickly and more importantly he gets the projects completed promptly. I also appreciate the owner, Halil, follows up each completion with his own final touch ups and cleanup. I think he and his firm are the best."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Various kinds of substances and deck preservatives act as protective coatings for wood to prevent rot, which is caused by water getting into the wood and creating cracks and splits. Stains, paints, and sealants are the three best options to protect your wood, but there are also oils, varnishes, and waxes available. You’ll need to reapply sealant at least once per year, and you should inspect your wood deck regularly to look for signs of damage or general wear and tear.

The best temperature to paint a pool deck is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, because many paints and sealers require temperatures warm enough for the chemical reaction to take place for proper curing. The paint should not be allowed to freeze, and temperatures above 90 degrees can cause the paint to dry too quickly, also preventing the chemical reaction from following through to completion.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

You can use latex or acrylic paint outdoors. Although acrylic paint tends to last longer outside, it also costs more, so if you’re painting the outside of your house, for instance, latex paint is often a go-to option. However, acrylic will be your best choice if you want to spend some extra money for added durability.

Painted decks typically require a new coat about once every ten years. In between new coats, it's best to maintain your deck by regularly removing debris, washing it down with non-abrasive cleaners, and staying ahead of structural issues, such as loose boards and rotting wood. In some cases, painting a small section of your deck affected by damage or the sun can lower your costs and workload.
