"Jim and his team were very professional throughout and did an awesome job renovating our exterior porch that enabled us to proceed with our initial concrete project. Jim's recommendation in 3D allowed us to visualize the plans in advance and the end result was perfect for our needs. I will be reaching out to Lockhart Construction for future work and highly recommend that you do the same!!"

"We have a 3 storey house and the team at Brite Idea came out and put up the lights on the house. They had to come out a second day with a longer ladder to finish up but the end job was worth the wait. We did the lights around the bushes which balanced the others beautifully. We agreed to a 3 year contract which suits us since we love having the house lit up for the holidays. I'm sure we'll continue as long as we live here."

"They had very good availability. They came and did everything as fast as they could. It was very convenient that way. The bad would be that they painted the window seal white. It had previously been a dark color, and I am not sure if they primed it good enough. You can still see the dark color through it. If we used them again we would go over our specifications a little more carefully before hand."

"Gary was very personable, knowledgeable and competent. He provided helpful ideas and suggestions for the design of the patio. He and his crew accomplished the work in a very efficient manner and the resulting patio was very well built and aesthetically pleasing. The shed pad was exactly what we needed. He left the work site neat and clean We are very happy with the end product and would definitely recommend Gary for this type of work. clean up/pad"

"Michael and his crew did a very professional job on the new electric service and new electrical panel.  They paid attention to the little details that made the installation look good.   He also gave us much better price than a few of our other quotes.  Planning to use him again if needed."

"We are in the midst of the project but I couldn't be happier. Both Frank and Ken offered amazing design ideas from the start, were patient in explaining everything, and flexible in working with my desired deadline as I expanded the project three times before signing the contract. Karen was their perfect complement as she kept me informed on what I could and can expect through the entire process. If their level of professionalism is any indication of their work product, I know I will enjoy my patio for years to come and I already have future projects I would love for them to complete."

"From the very start Ronda took the time to speak with us at great length on the phone and at our residence. It seamed to us like no matter how much time we needed she had that and more. Ronda took the time to get to know our taste and the things we liked and did not like and put together a presentation that blew us away. It was exactly what we wanted, as if she saw our vision even though we did not see it ourselves. Ronda gave us what we truly wanted not what other designers liked or had excess inventory of. She worked hard and with many late nights to make sure all contractors were lined up to complete the job on time. If fact 3 days ahead of schedule and ON BUDGET.
I would and plan on using her services for our Kitchen, Laundry room and building an addition that will act as a mudroom. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a professional home designer that understands efficiency, quality and a keep eye for price and design.

Lighting questions, answered by experts

If half of a string of Christmas lights is out, it is likely because of a single burned-out, loose, or broken bulb within that section. Long strands of lights often contain more than one circuit, so when one bulb fails, it can cause the entire circuit (or half the strand) to go dark. To fix this, inspect the unlit section and test each bulb to ensure it is tight and functioning properly. Replacing the faulty bulb or repairing a damaged shunt will typically solve the problem.

It’s fair to be concerned about handling pool lights or wiring in a pool filled with water. But fortunately, pool lights and swimming pools are designed to make it easy and safe to replace the lights without needing to drain the water. Instead, you can turn off the electricity to the pool as a safety precaution, unscrew the pool fixture, pull it up and out to the side of the pool, then change the bulb.

No, you should not leave LED Christmas lights up all year. While the LED lights themselves are very durable, their wiring and casings can be as vulnerable as any Christmas lights. They’re subject to drying out, experiencing cold or sun damage that causes them to crack, and even damage caused by gnawing pests. (The same is true of incandescents.) If you want your lights to last the years that they’re rated for, bring them inside after Christmas is over.

Testing tools, such as Christmas light testers, non-contact proximity electrical testers, and multimeters, all simplify the process of testing Christmas lights. However, without one or more of those tools, testing Christmas lights the old-fashioned way only works sometimes. Without testing tools, the simplest testing method is visual inspection, which may or may not yield positive results.

While most general electricians can repair lamps and light fixtures, it is often better to hire a lamp repair specialist. Many electricians prefer larger jobs, such as fixing electrical systems or relocating fixtures, and may not offer lamp repair services due to the small scale of the work. Additionally, some lamps, particularly antique models, require dedicated expertise that a general electrician might not have. A lamp repair specialist will be familiar with various types of fixtures and can provide a more dedicated service. If you have already hired an electrician for a larger project, you can ask them to look at your lamp, but for a standalone repair, a specialist is typically the best option.
