Bethany Beach, DE 7/22/2022 Paint or Stain Exterior Surfaces We hired DMJ Custom Colors to clean and apply solid color stain to treated wood skirting on our beach house. Dennis spent much time with me advising me on which products would be best. He even provided a contact with a paint manufacturer and encouraged me to consult with him. This was extremely helpful. He and his men did a wonderful job, with great attention to neatness and detail. He promptly responded to ever contact and finished the job promptly. We could not be more pleased. His price was a little higher but I was willing to employ him because of his helpfulness. It was a great experience and I will use him again. 5.0 Beth M. Bridgeville, DE 7/15/2022 Paint or Stain Exterior Surfaces Dennis and his crew did a fantastic job on my exterior house painting. I have a cedar shake house and I was worried how good of a job a company could do. With DMJ Custom Colors Painting my house was in excellent hands. They sealed the windows and doors, painted my chimney, and even replaced a whole end side of shakes that were rotting. Of course upon my approval, their communication was definitely professional I highly recommend Dennis and his crew at DMJ for any painting project you have. My house looks wonderful!"

"We just had our entire home painted by Art Work Painting (approx. 4000 sq ft). We could not be happier. The process was fantastic from beginning to end, from estimate to completion and the price was reasonable. The owner, Sergio, was there on time for our quote appt and gave me his quote right then and there. No one else I got estimates from did that. His crew was fantastic! They were here bright and early every day until the project was done (with Sundays off of course). They cleaned up everyday and put everything back the way they found it. I honestly can't say enough good things about Art Work Painting. I would hire them again and have already recommended them to some of my real estate clients!"

Stucco questions, answered by experts

The average cost of stucco siding is $5,400, ranging from $2,200 to $8,840. Stucco is worth the investment, provided you have the work done by a professional. Not only is stucco an attractive and durable siding material that boosts your home’s curb appeal, but it’s also more energy-efficient than most other siding options, it’s fire-resistant, water-resistant, and more affordable to repair down the road.

The curing time for stucco typically takes several weeks to fully complete. During the curing process, the stucco undergoes a chemical reaction and gradually hardens. It's important to note that curing is different from drying. While the surface of the stucco may dry relatively quickly within a few hours or days, the curing process continues beneath the surface, strengthening and solidifying the stucco.

It's best to avoid excessive moisture exposure during the curing period, as it can impede the curing process. The exact curing time can vary based on factors such as temperature, humidity, and the specific stucco mixture used.

Choosing between traditional and synthetic stucco depends on your specific needs, budget, and climate. Both options are durable, but synthetic stucco includes an extra layer that makes it more resistant to cracking and a better choice for climates with extreme weather. In hot, dry climates with less rainfall, traditional stucco is a suitable and more affordable option that is less likely to trap moisture. Synthetic stucco also offers more color options and requires less maintenance.

Stucco repair can best be described as a patch. It involves identifying the problem and fixing that specific damage with additional stucco. If no mold infiltration or an underlying leak is causing the damage, repair is most likely all you need.

Remediation, on the other hand, involves removing the existing siding, fixing the underlying cause of the damage, and then reapplying stucco siding for that wall. It’s a more permanent fix that takes longer to complete and, hence, comes with a steeper price tag than repair.

The decision to repair or replace stucco depends on the extent of the damage. For minor issues like small cracks, holes, dirt, stains, or discoloration, a repair is typically sufficient and more cost-effective. These issues can often be resolved with a simple repair, a deep clean, and possibly a new coat of paint. However, for more significant problems such as large cracks, peeling, mold, algae, or structural water damage, a replacement might be necessary. In these cases, it is best to call a professional stucco contractor for an inspection. An expert can assess the severity of the damage, determine if there are deeper issues, and advise whether a repair is adequate or if replacing a section or an entire wall is the more cost-effective, long-term solution.
