"R&M Masonry was quick to reach out to review the work and provide a quote at a fair price. Project was completed shortly after that and covered everything we agreed to. The workers took extra precautions to keep the work area clean and be mindful of our home. Would definitely recommend them for masonry projects."

"I found Arnold's Masonry by reading all of his amazing reviews! What a find! I would give him 10 stars if they were available. I had a vision of what I wanted for my sidewalk and upon the completion of the project, it was exactly what I wanted. Arnold and his crew were patient, kind and worked so hard. Arnold was at the site at all times. I am completely satisfied with his work and would hire him again if I need any further masonry work. He also has a wide variety of services other than masonry that I would also be interested in for future work. Do not hesitate to hire Arnold's Masonry for any of your home construction needs. You will not be disappointed!"

"We have had Arnolds Masonry rebuild two brick chimneys and repair the brick siding. They matched the bricks almost perfectly. Their workmanship was flawless. The workers were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and they completed the job in a very timely manner. After 17 years, hour chimneys remain in perfect condition. We thank all their efforts and hard work and would highly recommend Arnolds masonry to others."

"General Masonry is the only place anyone should ever call for any kind of masonry work. Period. Andi and his workers were beyond amazing. First, Andi came out multiple times because we werenâ t really sure of what we wanted. We basically asked him what we should do with the area as we didnâ t really know what would be best. Then after we decided what we wanted it took us a while to decide to do it (we did a huge project). We got a handful of quotes for the work and he was not only one of the least expensive he also made us feel the most comfortable that is would be done right. The first time Andi came out he gave us his license number and had his insurance company email ME to prove he had insurance. No other company did any of this. He completed the project in two weeks which was incredible. Andi even came on his own on the weekend to make sure the project was finished in a timely manner. He went above and beyond by putting lights in, and when I didnâ t like something we had planned, he changed it. The work done is beautiful and they left the place immaculate. Before they were even done we decided to do other projects around the property for him to do, because he is JUST THAT GOOD. More than any of the above I would never use anyone else because of the professionalism and kindness of Andi. I donâ t consider him someone I hired to do a job, I consider him a friend. If you are looking to do your pool, walkway, stairs or anything else if you donâ t contact General Masonry you are wasting your time and money and you are just wrong. PERIOD"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Start your masonry work inspection in the spring by checking for new cracks, spalling, and white salt deposits left by winter weather. Schedule major repairs and waterproofing treatments for the warm, dry Torrington summer. In the fall, seal open joints and inspect your chimney before the heating season begins. During the cold CT winter, simply monitor your foundation and walls for ice damage.

Helpful?

You have excellent sustainable options for masonry work in Torrington. Consider using reclaimed brick or locally sourced fieldstone from regional salvage to reduce environmental impact. Because of the cold climate, thermal mass strategies help store and release heat efficiently. Additionally, upgrading foundation insulation during a project improves your home's energy performance. Statewide CT programs offer assessments and rebates for building envelope improvements.

Helpful?

Safety is critical during masonry work. Always call the CT utility locate service before digging any footings to avoid underground hazards. When grinding or cutting materials, you must use proper dust control methods to prevent dangerous silica exposure. For older Torrington homes, test for lead paint before disturbing adjacent surfaces. Avoid working on elevated scaffolding during cold months when ice creates severe fall risks.

Helpful?

A major mistake during masonry work is applying hard modern mortar to historic brick, which traps moisture and causes severe freeze-thaw damage. Delaying minor crack repairs until winter allows ice to expand the damage significantly. Homeowners also overlook chimney flashing maintenance, leading to interior water leaks. Always ensure new footings reach the required CT frost depth to prevent seasonal shifting.

Helpful?

Uncovering deeper freeze-thaw damage is a common surprise during masonry work. Surface cracks hide extensive structural deterioration caused by harsh Torrington winters. You will face extra expenses if your project uncovers deteriorated clay chimney liners or hidden water damage in adjacent wood framing. Excavating deeper footings to meet the strict CT frost line requirements also requires additional labor and materials.
