"We had a leak underneath the sink, it was an obvious emergency, I called Gray home improvement, the proprietor is very professional and quickly scheduled me. Arrived on time as scheduled, took note of the situation, bought necessary materials to perform the job, worked into the night to get the job done, which was appreciated. The work was flawless, and I do highly recommend this business"

Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to animal proof the underside of my house, also had him repair my clothes line, repair plywood under the family room, My issue is he told us the animal proofing was complete and then told us there is one more opening under the deck steps that remains open and he has not completed yet, maybe due to weather so still waiting on that completion. Then I will update my Rating and Review once that job is completed. *******************Update 01/20/2020 ***********The contractor came back and completed job and his work was very satisfactory!!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.

Consider durability, color, texture, room use, and personal style when selecting fabric. Fabrics like linen, cotton, or microfiber offer versatility and strength.

As with any project, weighing the pros and cons of upholstery can help determine if that is the right choice for you. The ultimate question is whether it’s worth reupholstering instead of buying new furniture. Here are a few of the benefits and disadvantages of reupholstering a piece of furniture.

Pros:

  • Preserving a family heirloom

  • Maintaining high-quality furniture in good condition

  • Reinventing an old piece of furniture

  • Keeping a piece of furniture from going to a landfill

Cons:

  • Spending (possibly) more than to buy a new piece of furniture

  • Finding out the frame is beyond repair

  • Waiting for the reupholstery work to be done

Pros cover many fixes, from upholstery renewals to joint reinforcement.

It is generally worth repairing leather furniture rather than replacing it, as it is typically more affordable and the material tends to retain its value. A typical repair averages around $250, which is significantly less than the thousands of dollars a replacement could cost. Even a full reupholstering, which can cost up to $4,000, may still be more economical than buying new. With proper care, repaired leather furniture can last for many years, making the investment worthwhile. However, if the underlying structure or frame of the furniture is damaged or malfunctioning, replacement might be a better option. The quality of the leather and the furniture piece are also important factors. For a definitive answer, it is best to consult a leather repair professional to assess your specific situation.
