"Avraham was the consummate professional and expeditiously returned my call on a major holiday (Labor Day) when I reached out to him and explained my emergency. I reside in NJ and my elderly mother who resides in NY - had a medical crises which resulted in the Fire Department breaking her door locks in order to enter allowing EMS to come to her aid when she could not open the door for her Home Health Aide as a result of falling. Logistically I had to get to NY to stay with my mother as Avraham gave me the choice to come that evening or the following morning as he provided recommendations for each choice . I spoke with the FIrefighter who informed me that while he had to break two of my mother's lock, he was able to leave one lock undisturbed - however the stability of the door was greatly compromised with a huge amount of slack and the existing lock was off track -but able to barely lock. I arranged to have pictures sent to the locksmith and explained the door status as Avraham automatically inquired about it. It was during our discussion that I learned of Avraham's vast knowledge concerning locks and doors and I was impressed with his insights from experience as well as how he took pride in his craft after vetting two other locksmiths. Once my mother was stabilized, I decided and arranged for Avraham to arrive very early Tuesday morning and to give me a heads up call 1/2 hour prior to arriving. Avraham called as agreed, arrived on-time, installed a highly secure well known multi lock cylinder along with deadbolt, managed to miraculously align the door seamlessly with the new installation, and provided wise advice to discourage the use of an old chain lock - as Avraham explained to my mother and I - her chain lock which was broken could be a death trap and highly recommending removing it. He candidly made it abundantly clear that he unfortunately encountered many worse case scenarios with chain locks and senior citizens who had them installed to their detriment. Avraham also provided professional recommendations on another locking system that was still in tack but very tricky to operate. He took his time and with great patience spoke with my elderly mother and I. My mother and I highly recommend Avraham and would not hesitate to use his professional services again should the need for a locksmith ever arise again. I thank God that for taking care of my mother and we both thank God for Avraham as he provided my family with peace of mind, safety, and took his time to ensure that his work was done with perfection. "Joe was able to come the same day as inquiry and provided a very quick, informative and honest job. He was upfront about the costs, worked around other contractors and completed the work with professionalism.  I would certainly use Joe's company again and recommend him to other Angie's list members."

"Had very good experience with this locksmith. Came to my house shortly after we spoke on phone and he was able to fix my door lock; a different locksmith had looked at it previously and said it needed to be replaced with a new lock, which, of course, would have cost me a lot more. Thank you, Mamudu, for great service."

"My front door lock became inoperative.  I called American Locksmith and they responded in a timely manor.  My problem was diagnosed and I was given options.  A new, exact replacement lock would have been $500 installed.  They suggested getting replacement parts, as the  majority of the lock was in good condition.  The replacement parts were ordered ans in a couple of days were installed.  The lock now works perfectly.
Without question, my best interest was put first and all work was done reliably and efficiently.  I would recommend American Locksmith to anyone.

"they rekeyed my locks, new digital keypad lock on your frontdoor and glass. They are so nice and I want them to recommend to other customers. The price is fair. They response within the day."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Any type of dead bolt lock provides the highest level of safety for a single device. However, it’s also important to determine a lock's grade. Locks can come in either Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3, which indicates how durable it is and if it’s constructed solidly. Safety experts recommend choosing locks based on Grade 1, which offers the highest level of durability.

Expect to pay between $50 to $200 if you hire a locksmith to change your locks. That figure includes labor and the cost of basic hardware. The cost will naturally be higher if you plan to install more expensive locks, like smart locks, and if you need a lot of them.

Homeowners can save money by replacing locks themselves. A typical rekeying kit costs about $10 to $25. The only additional cost is purchasing new house keys, and those are no more than a few dollars per key. If you want to replace the locks on your own completely, the main cost is the price of the locks themselves. A standard knob-style lock starts around $25, while electronic locks and smart locks will run in the hundreds of dollars. The only additional tools you should need are a tape measure, screwdriver, and screws if they are not already provided.

Locksmiths recommend changing your locks once every seven years for the best security at your home. Locks can wear out over time, so you should inspect your locks regularly. A higher grade lock provides you with more cycles than those with a lower grade.

Lock picking is a relatively subtle method of unauthorized access, making it hard to detect. But there are telltale signs to look for. First, look for scratches or tool marks around the keyhole or the lock's surface. Also, check for loose or misaligned components, like a wonky strike plate, which could indicate tampering. Consulting a locksmith or security professional for an assessment can provide valuable insights, too. Investing in high-quality locks and considering additional security measures, like security cameras, can help deter potential intruders and enhance your overall safety.

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.
