"They came on the day promised. They removed 11 trees in their stumps and roots . They took everything away and cleaned up and leveled out the land when they were done. They were very professional and respectful . I would hire them again in a minute for any landscaping ."

"Leonard expertly repaired my slate walks and patio that had lifted and settled over time. The process included power washing the stones, laying and leveling fresh stone dust, then replacing the stone -- including replacing those that had broken. The pricing was fair and the work outstanding. I will use Leonard again and recommend him to friends and neighbors."

"Jason with Jade Construction was a pleasure to work with. He came out on a rainy day to walk my project- hole in the backyard that need filling from the previous owners pool surround and leveling the side yard to make way for a patio. I had a quote later that day that was reasonable and fair. We scheduled the job fast. He and his worker arrived as scheduled with the machine got right to work moving dirt & leveling. They brought in 4 loads of dirt and made everything look exactly as we agreed within a few hours. I would definitely recommend Jason to anyone looking for some leveling, fill and top soil work. Very pleasant to work with. Btw, I didn’t ask for them to include grass seed in the job. I did that myself the next day. But Jason did ask."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Pavers are one of the most affordable methods of creating an elevated outdoor space. Gravel is an equally affordable alternative. If your budget permits, you can look into building a permeable driveway to ensure proper drainage. Grid pavers, pervious concrete, brick, and brick pavement are all effective materials. Permeable driveways are great options, especially if you live in an area with heavy rainstorms.

You should avoid planting grass, shrubs, plants, and trees in freezing temperatures, as the ground can get frozen and become too hard for proper root growth. It’s best to plant in the fall to allow your plants to establish root systems before the first frost. Landscaping when the average temperature in your area is between 50 and 60 degrees will usually deliver the best results.

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

It’s usually best to buy plants from a local greenhouse or nursery yourself, but landscapers are also a reliable option. First, you can choose exactly what plants you want based on their appearance rather than relying on your landscaper to choose. Additionally, while it’s more time-consuming to go buy the plants yourself, you’ll often save money because landscapers charge for delivery and may upcharge the plants. You can also speak to a professional at a nursery to ensure you understand how to care for your plants and get the most long-term value.

It is possible to plant a tree over a ground stump if it was ground very deeply. However, it is typically best to plant elsewhere so your new tree has room to establish a strong, healthy root system. If you want to plant a tree in the same spot where you currently have a stump, you may want to consider other options, such as stump removal.
