Tiger Group, Inc. is a Connecticut family owned business providing Inspection Services since 1992. We are licensed and insured. Our 22 highly trained and specialized inspectors provide thorough Residential and Commercial Inspections throughout CT, Western MA, and Westchester, NY. Additionally, we provide Radon and Well Water Testing, and Mold Assessments. We inspect 7 days/week. We look forward to the opportunity to work with you.

"This review is from a seller where an inspection was performed. The heat was not shut off after the inspection and my family and I walked into 90 degree temperatures because the heat was never turned off when the inspection was complete and it was on for 7 hours until we got home. In addition the mud room has a thermostat and electric heater and that was also left on high which we did not realize until the next day. In addition, to prove a point to a potential buyer he forced a hole through the wood in our detached garage reporting that there are signs of water damage. The garage is from 1930, there has been water in the garage especially when we had the hurricane last year but they could have just written that in the report not damage our property to prove a point. Coincidentally, the same inspector came back with another interested buyer and yet another piece of wood was pulled off from the garage. If that is not bad enough, the same inspector gave confidential information from a previous inspection to a new potential buyer which led to another buyer terminating the deal. I know this as our lawyer communicated with the potential buyers attorney and said that the inspector passed on information about a previous inspection he did at our house a week earlier.. in addition, our neighbor and friends were outside during the outside portion of the inspection and they heard the inspector give the potential buyers and their real estate broker information about the last inspection and what the other potential buyers said. So much for confidentiality."

They were like lightening (in a good way) and had the tank replaced in like 30 mins. These guys are GOOD !!! The water pressure was more than I thought the well could produce. Excellent job and very informative. They are true professionals !! I highly recommend them."

26 years in home inspection business, previous remodeling contractor, completed 5,000 home inspections, individual computer generated home detailed home inspection report with photographs, home inspector instructor, authored publication on "steam heating" in Journal of Light Construction. Construction supervisor.

"Tom and April are indispensable if you are buying a home. Tom and April have inspected multiple homes for me, and their expertise is as good as it gets. As a first time home buyer, I did not know what to look for in some of the older homes in southeastern Connecticut, but Tom was able to explain everything clearly and concisely. He is a very thorough home inspector, and will methodically go through each room, outside of the house, and the basement to show any signs of wear or issues. If you use Sound Home Inspections, you can be sure that because of Tom's years in the field, and knowledge from flipping houses no stone will be unturned! He is an invaluable resource for any home buyer, and as I said, I have use him multiple times because I know that he will be honest and knowledge about about all aspects of a home inspection."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

Properties should ideally be tested for radon every 2 to 5 years or sooner when changes to the property structure or ventilation occur that might impact airflow.

You can buy DIY radon test kits from a home improvement store and conduct radon testing, but these tests are often inaccurate. No matter the result, you should supplement DIY testing with professional radon detection and analysis. DIYers only have access to passive radon tests, which aren’t as reliable as active tests that professionals use. Plus, it’s very easy for DIYers to make mistakes during testing, leading to inaccurate results. If you’re moving into a new home, have concerns about radon, or are due for an updated test, hire a professional.

Radon testing costs around $450 on average, but you could pay between $150 and $800 for testing, depending on a few factors. The size of your house is one of the most significant cost factors, as your radon professional will have to set up additional tests for homes with larger footprints. The type of test can also have an impact on the cost. Finally, some radon testing companies will include a recommended protocol for radon mitigation, while others might charge $50 to $100 extra.

A radon test has no effect on humans—only the radon in the air does. The test does not redistribute the radon that is already present so yes, it’s safe to be around the testing kit even if it isn’t safe to be in the room itself. The test absorbs and measures the radon, but doesn't absorb enough of it to make the room any safer.

Costs depend on test type, home size, number of testing locations, and whether follow-up testing is required.
