"Nightshade was the 3rd company I had in to quote new motorized shades in my home. After seeing what they had to offer, it was an easy decision to go with them. They gave me a fair price, with shades that were perfect for what needed. They had many different options and walked me through what would work best in each room. The customer service was top notch. When it was time for installation, they came in and made sure to cover my floors and did a quick, neat job. I would recommend them to anyone looking for window coverings. A+++"

Customers say: Quick response

"Elvin is great. He fixed my wood double front doors and applied paint that I had picked out, as well as new handles/lock. He took his time, was very polite, and made sure everything was in order before in left. My front doors look amazing. Will be hiring him again for more work around the house. Also, his pricing was very reasonable and on point for the amount of repair and painting work he did."

"Gary is professional, courtesy, up-front and honest. The project on paper was simple enough. It was suppose to involve altering the point of entry to some windows in our space, but when we went to remove more of the existing drywall, it quickly turned out to be a complete mess. Gary did an excellent job in adapting to rectify the situation, which involved jack-hammering granite, precise framing, drywall and paint. He stuck to the projected timetable of completion, arrived on-time daily, and while the ultimate pricing did fluctuate from the beginning of the project Gary was very clear from the beginning that pricing could increase if an intensive amount of jack-hammering was involved (which there was). Pricing was fair. Overall we would 10 for 10 involve Gary again for any serious carpentry or GC work we need completed in our space."

"Easy to work with. Understood what we wanted and made recommendations that enhanced the final look. Very reasonably priced and did not overcharge for all the extras we added once the project started and still delivered the project on time. Will definitely use them again!"

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

A garden window is about 16 inches to 24 inches deep. This extra space makes room for small potted plants, which is how the garden window, also called a greenhouse window, got its name. Because garden windows jut outward from the house, they need to be installed in a place where they won’t obstruct walkways.

The most common types of window frames include frame and sash, metal or aluminum frames, composite frames, fiberglass frames, vinyl frames, wood frames, glass or glazed frames, and insulated frames. Frames can also be categorized by operating types, such as awning frames, single/double-sliding frames, fixed frames, casement frames, and single/double-hung frames.

Costs depend on window size, type, material, and labor. Custom shapes or sizes typically incur higher expenses; full installation includes removing old windows.

Deciding whether to repair or replace a window depends on the specific issue, the window's age, and the cost-effectiveness of the solution.

Repair is often better for:

  • Minor issues such as a single broken glass pane, a stuck window, or small leaks. Repair is typically more affordable for isolated problems.

Replacement is the better long-term solution for:

  • Major problems like deteriorating or rotting frames, significant leaks, or drafts.

  • If your windows are over 15 years old, as repairs may only be a temporary fix for an aging unit.

  • If you have a widespread problem affecting several windows.

Replacing window glass instead of the entire window is more cost-effective, maintains the frame's aesthetics, and reduces waste. It improves insulation and energy efficiency and can be completed more quickly with minimal disruption to the home.
