Vinyl and linoleum are the most affordable flooring for a mobile home. The material costs $3 to $7 per square foot—or half as much as hardwood and slightly less than laminate. 

Overall, vinyl isn’t as durable as linoleum, but it performs best in areas with high levels of moisture. Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) or luxury flooring tile (LVT) has added durability with just a slightly higher price tag. 

Door transitions can work with virtually any flooring type; however, different transition strips lend themselves better to specific flooring types. For instance, if you are bridging the gap between a taller floor, like carpet, to a shorter floor, like hardwood, then you will want a transition strip with a slight slope to bridge the height difference. These transition strips are called reducer molding. On the other hand, if you are bridging two floors of the same height, you can use flat transition strips, such as T-strips and seam binders.

Carpet is an effective natural insulator, so it will make a room slightly warmer than laminate. The material’s insulating properties also make carpeted rooms more efficient for temperature regulation.

You might be wondering, “Is laminate flooring toxic?” The product does contain formaldehyde, which is found in the resins used to bind the wood fibers together. But the chance of overexposure and adverse reactions, such as allergy- or asthma-like symptoms, is low unless you are exposed to formaldehyde in other places, i.e., if you work with formaldehyde regularly outside the home.
