Advanced Custom Carpentry is a single member LLC which is very similar to a sole proprietor except for the legal business entity. I, Seth Arzt, work alone most of the time. If necessary I will hire subcontractors especially if there is plumbing or electrical work done as I am not licensed in those areas.

Grace Builders, llc has been providing professional service and quality workmanship since March of 2000. We have completed hundreds of projects with varying complexity and are considered one of the top building and remodeling companies in Hartford County

"Stay far away from Kevin Grace Builders. We hired him to renovate two full bathrooms. Things started out Ok but then he just disappeared. He stopped returning calls and texts. We had to involve a lawyer to sever the relationship. We hired another contractor and learned that a lot of the work was substandard. Do research on how many times he has been sued for similar before you consider hiring him."

Dock Building and Repair questions, answered by experts

The average cost of a new dock piling is $950, including the labor to install it. Dock piling costs can range from $300 to $1,600. You can save money by trying to repair a damaged piling instead of replacing it. On average, repairing a boat dock piling costs $450, with prices ranging between $200 and $700.

Yes, professionals can replace damaged flotation devices to maintain proper dock buoyancy.

Here are a few other considerations before you build, even if you're convinced you're in compliance with the law:

  • Are you damaging the environment? Bodies of water are often delicate ecosystems, and building a dock can be destructive and disruptive to the wildlife.

  • Are you blocking access? Lots of people like to use a lake, so you need to make sure your dock doesn't block public access to the water.

  • Can you enclose the dock? Just because you can build a dock doesn't mean you can build any dock you want. Some areas don't allow enclosed docks, for example.

  • Do you need to follow any specific rules or guidelines? Check with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) Office for Coastal Management for any guidelines you’ll need to follow, including size and type restrictions.

Docks can last between 20 and 30 years, provided regular maintenance has been performed. Upkeep tasks like staining your dock annually to prevent water damage, repairing broken elements quickly, and using dock covers regularly will help extend your dock’s life. Your dock is likely nearing the end of its lifespan when it shows signs of rot, rust, and foundation damage.

Rotting wood, loose boards, rusted fasteners, and damaged pilings often require repair to maintain safety and functionality.
