"I contracted with Straight Line Fencing to build 130 feet of 6ft. cedar privacy fence while I was out of state. Communication with Mickey was clear and professional. He was able to build exactly to my specification and comply with city code requirements, with the build complete in 2 days. I arrived at my home to see an absolutely beautiful new fence! The quality of the wood and the work is outstanding, and Mickey is a perfect gentleman. Thank you Straight Line Fencing!"

"The fence looks great. They were great to work with, willing to make changes to original plan, which did take a little extra time. They took a break in the middle of my job to go do another one that "needed to take priority". There were several things left incomplete such as pipe ends extending beyond a corner creating injury hazard for my horses, post wrapped with fencing not removed, again an injury hazard (one horse did get injured), some debris to clean up. There were several sections where the dog fencing was not attached to posts. Most items were relatively minor, still it added up to several hours of additional work I had to find someone else to do."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Yes, fence posts need to be installed below the frost line to ensure stability and prevent heaving caused by freezing and thawing cycles. The frost line is the depth at which soil freezes during winter. By placing posts below this line, often around 3 to 4 feet deep or as recommended for your specific region, you reduce the risk of the ground shifting, which can lead to leaning or unstable fences. Adequate depth provides better anchoring and helps maintain the fence's integrity, ensuring it remains secure and upright throughout changing seasons.

Glass has one of the longest lifespans of any fencing materials, lasting anywhere from 10 to 30 years on average. Just how long your glass fence lasts depends on several factors, including how well you maintain your fence, the climate, and the type of glass you use.

If you live somewhere with severe weather like hail, tornadoes, or hurricanes, expect your glass to have a shorter lifespan. Pool glass is one of the thickest tempered glass materials and may last longer than other options—especially compared to laminated glass.

A board on board fence is more expensive than other types of privacy fences. That’s because these fences require overlapping boards, which drives up material and labor costs. On average, a board on board fence costs 30% more than an average wood fence.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.

Vinyl or PVC fences offer low-maintenance features, weather resistance, and diverse style options, ideal for security and privacy without extensive upkeep.
