"Peter and his crew overlaid the asphalt in a parking lot at the new location of the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls & Toys at 830 Kipling. Peter and his crew did an amazing job. The parking lot was in very bad shape. But they removed damaged asphalt, milled it down, filled holes, dealt with Kipling traffic and overlaid the asphalt; blending it into the sidewalks and adjacent patio. "This asphalt paving company resurfaced my asphalt driveway, widened it some, added a turnaround space, and evened out the curb-end of the of the driveway. The company representative, Mr. Johnny Harrison was pleasant, informative, and totally professional. He showed up on the appointed date (May 12, 2026) on time and ready to work. His crew finished in a couple of hours and did a nice, neat job. We are pleased with Mr. Harrison and his crew and their work, and will recommend him and his company to our friends for asphalt paving."

Due to these differences, asphalt is generally more durable and better for high-traffic areas like highways and streets, while blacktop is more suitable for playgrounds and residential driveways. For a driveway project, it is best to consult a professional to determine the most appropriate material.

The recommended minimum amount for a paver base is 4 inches. From there, it depends on the kind of traffic the pavers will see and the current soil conditions. Two inches of paver base won’t create the amount of stability and support that pavers need to remain securely in place over time.

Driveways should be sloped with a minimum 2% slope—anything lower will cause precipitation and runoff to collect. A 2% slope is the equivalent of a 2-foot rise over 100 feet. One quick way to check the integrity of your driveway’s slope: no more than four inches of water should collect on the surface longer than 15 minutes after rain.

You can pour concrete over asphalt if it’s in good condition, thick, stable, and well-compacted. Concrete is more durable than asphalt and can extend the lifetime of your driveway without having to pay frequent asphalt driveway repair costs or replace it completely. 

But this is best reserved as a temporary solution based on budget restraints, as asphalt requires more frequent repairs and assessments than concrete. Once that concrete top is poured, it’ll be harder to accurately understand what’s happening beneath that layer, which could lead to more issues.
