"Bottom Line: Ken is as honest as they come. He saved me thousands of dollars (perhaps tens of thousands) by not up selling add-on products and services. He finished the job on time and on budget. Details: I solicited four bids for fixing some mild to moderate heaving in our unfinished basement. As I explained to all the bidders, the problem was more of an annoyance than a must fix. In fact, we had independent assessments from two structural engineering firms at the time of purchase who both said there was no cause for alarm. As expected, two companies came back with bids recommending drastic repairs and preventive measures that cost tens of thousands of dollars. The salesmen were polished in their presentations and were obviously trained in the art of sales, but had never done this kind of labor themselves. The other two bids, from smaller/independent operators, were much more reasonable and in line with what the structural engineers recommended. Ken impressed me right off the bat when he said, “if this were my house, I would just leave it as it is”. My conversations with him were rational and relaxed. We talked about several different options. At no time did I feel and pressure. Ultimately, this is why we chose to go with Ken. Ken was able to start the job within a couple weeks. He estimated that the job (removal of basement concrete floor and installation of a new floor and sump pump) would take four days. There were some unanticipated hurdles getting day laborers to carry concrete from the basement to the truck, so Ken and Rudy worked longer hours to stay on time. They kept me informed every morning and afternoon. Again, their honesty was refreshing. The job was definitely more difficult than they expected, but they never wavered in their commitment. The concrete was poured on the third day and clean up done on the fourth day. Ken was responsive to minor requests, such as moving the sump pump discharge line a few feet, and insisted he would not be happy unless we were happy. All in all, the job was a success! I would definitely recommend Ken and Rudy to my friends and family."
